Does it rival my home system? No, but nothing built into a car ever will.
I disagree. If you put enough effort into it, it can be done, just not when driving . Check out deppenma's install. He has a home audio processor in the dash.

Hey now, you haven't heard my home system...let's not say things we can't take back!

It's not the equipment that's problematic in a car, it's placement of the drivers and the size/shape of the "listening chamber". You have far more control over that in the home (unless your S.O. doesn't share your enthusiasm for audio ).

You probably have a kick-a$$ home system. I top of the line home system will undoubtedly be better than a top of the line car sysem. Hands down. But if you pu enough $ and effort into a car system, it can run with most medium - high level home systems (Premium home systems are in a whole other league).

I agree that the positioning and the accoustics of the cabin can cause problems, but you CAN (although usually not practical) make those problems moot if you get the right equipment and the right tune. Just look at the Alpine Show cars.
