A nice surprise in my s2k...
As some of you already know, and some who dont, i just bought a s2000 last week.
It was used, and the previous owner bought it on a whim and only drove it like 3000 miles in the past year so he didnt know what was in it. Turns out the first owner though had put in some nice goodies into it. I found this out because when i turned up my music on some songs with deep punchy bass, it would start sounding distorted so I figured I had a blown speaker even tho on its way to up that it sounded really really good until the point of distortion.
So yesterday I tore apart my old integra to take out my infinity reference speakers that I thought were good ones when I got em for $99 a pair at Circuity City last year.
I went to put them into the s2k today and this is what i found.
Boston Acoustic 5.5Pro's with crossovers installed in the front doors.
Damn i thought to myself, these cant be stock. I did some research and saw their current version of the same model line of Pros is like $599 from bostonacoustics.com.
Then i looked closer, realized the tweeter in front of the speaker was touching the cone whenever it hit hard and thats what the distortion was so I'll have to disconnect this tweeter and remount it somewhere else later. Problem solved.
Well after I put my door back together, I tried pulling off my rear panels behind my seats to see if I could do a cut out to add in two more speakers since the s2k only has door speakers. Behind one of thepanels i tried pulling out, i found a red power wire. This doesnt look stock i thought but didnt really do anything about it since I didnt know what it was for...well turned out my infinity speakers wouldnt fit the panel, so I put it back together.
Then I went to my trunk to find a spot to mount my amp for my new sub that Im getting for the s2k. I heard about people mounting it behind this piece of carpet next to the spare tire. I spend a few minutes tugging away at the trim pieces, then low and behold, there is a Xtant 404m amp sitting there in all its glory. Turns out that was being used to power those Boston Acoustic Speakers.
Well, at least I found out i have about $1000 worth retail in extra stereo stuff that I didnt know I had before. Anyways, I'd post up some pics of my finds but I dont have a webserver right now.
So now that I have this nice 4 channel amp in my car, i think im gonna buy a set of 5.25" speakers for the rear panel conversion. Anyone know of some good high quality ones that will work well with about 50-100 rms and have the magnet fit in that back panel?
thanks
