Thumbs up 07 S2K - just bought Polk DB651 speakers

I had a $100 gift card to Circuit City and ended up gettin some Polk DB651 Coaxial speakers because some threads on here said they mount right up without any modification. These aren't the shallow model (DB651S) , but some people still said they fit so I went ahead and got them.

Now the stock 2007 speakers don't really sound so bad, but when you turn it up to say 25-27ish on a song with a decent amount of bass, they start to distort quite a bit which kinda sucks. I'm just wondering if anybody with a newer S2K has these speakers running off the stock head-unit and how they sound compared to the stock speakers before I install them.

My friend thinks my stock speakers are aftermarket, but I bought the car new. He says this because the front speakers are blue and look like they weren't supposed to be in the car new... I'm pretty positive there stock, but can someone confirm this?

Also, would I need to buy those speaker wire harness connectors so they plug right up?

I don't know when but the later S2K's all got the "blue" speakers. They are stock.

I have an 06 and installed the same exact Polk Audio speakers. I haven't tried these speakers on the stock system. But I have tried the stock speakers with an aftermarket HU and then upgraded to the DB651. They sound slightly better, but only a tiny bit. Probably need an amp to get them to their full potential.

I think my old Alpine Type S speakers sounded better with more clear highs. But then again, its been a while since I heard them in my old '01 S.

Oh yeah, you can solder/crimp them on but its just easier to buy the harness adaptor so they plug right in.

Yeah, I stopped by Best Buy today and got the wiring connectors so I don't have to splice/crimp anything... As far as going with an aftermarket HU, I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon, but if the speakers at least sound a little better with the stock HU, and don't distort as much when they're turned up, i'll just put them in for now. Besides, I got them for free basically cuz I switched from Optimum Online to Verizon Fios so they sent me a gift card! hehe Thanks for the replies though.

With the stock radio, the better the speaker, the worse it will sound. The reason is simple. The stock radio signal is garbage. Good speakers make the garbage sound clearer. The stock speakers aren't too bad...get a new radio if you want the real benefit.

I agree. A new HU will be a bigger improvement than new speakers.

if I get a radio harness, do i just splice them all together and it'll run the higher wattage to the speakers or do you need to wire them differently? Maybe I'll just spring for an Alpine unit sooner than expected...
