Default Noob amp question, 4 ch for comps?

Is there any reason why everyone I talk to recommends a 4 channel amp to power my door components? Is there a benefit to wiring two channels to feed or bypass one crossover?

For example, I'm comparing JL Audio's 300/4 versus 300/2 amps (last generation models because they're all on sale). Is there any reason why should I want the /4 over the /2's higher-per-channel output? I would be dedicating the amp to just the door components, say Focal 165 series.

TIA!

a couple reasons I can think of:
you could run a four-channel bypassing the crossover for potentially
better sound, but if you don't set up the filters on the amp/headunit
just right, you can end up with worse sound.
many 4-channel amps are cheaper on a per watt basis than 2-channels,
so it's often cheaper to buy a 4-channel and bridge it to 2 channels,
assuming your speakers don't go below the minimum impedance for
the amp when bridged. In the case of those JL's, it may not be cheaper
though.

I have an almost new Alpine PDX-2.150 powering the Boston Pro components in my doors. If thats all you want to do a 2 channel will work fine. Its also for sale in the for sale section

Thanks guys. I made all my purchases yesterday, went with the JL 300/2 for Focal 165KPS components (maybe overkill but at $370 shipped I want to try them) and JL's A1400 for a 10W3v3 sub. I'm trying PD Fabrications' tool well box (only $90 shipped so if it sucks I'll pass it on to someone else).

Those PDX amps are WAY overpriced. I know we're paying for small size and modern electronic design (Class D for components!) but that doesn't matter as much to me. My new JL 300/2, with warranty (non-JL), was $225 shipped!

I bought my PDX off ebay for about that same price new. I've since decided not to sell it and just add an amp.

G/L with your setup

I'll keep posting updates (and questions!) as I install. I put damping update photos in my RAAMmat thread. The work goes slow!

I went used on my PDX amps and got the 1.600 for $239 shipped and the 2.150 for $103 shipped both off ebay. I'll take my chances with no warranty.
