Default Not satisfied with upgraded audio

I installed a set of focal ps165 165AS components in the doors with 100w rms going to each. Also added a 10" idq sub in the trunk toolwell wired at 4 ohms with 500w rms going to it. Already had a JVC headunit with 4V pre-outs. I am very disappointed with this setup. The highs are fantastic but the mids are very lacking and the lows could be better. I know the idq sub is all about sound quality so that was a bad choice on my part. The sub sounds great in my garage with the top up haha. But driving down the road forget it. All the quality low frequencies are lost. The sub box opening is cut at 9 5/8" for the idq. I want to get a louder sub but is that opening too big for a sub that needs only a 9 1/16" opening like the alpine type-r? What sub would you guys recommend for the s2000 that doesn't get lost while driving down the road? Had w6's in another car and they were incredible but it wont fit the that toolwell box... Would adding sound deadening in the doors help the midrange 6.5" woofers? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like you need EQ.

Most "bass" frequencies are played by the 6.5" woofers in the 100-200hz range. Why can't i get this quality with the better focal speakers? I've just assumed its because of the door construction...

The s2k is tough to get decent sound out of for obvious reasons in my experience. Open top, little noise deadening, close to ground, speaker position blocked by leg, and somewhat loud nvh to begin with, let alone with some mods like exhaust and stiffer mounts. Do you have any mods that would affect sound quality?

Make sure your amp is in Full range to the Focals and not High pass mode

Yeah single exhaust. Drowns out a lot of the subwoofer. Reason why I was thinking of going with more of a spl subwoofer over the idq. Any recommendations?

I'll have to check that. Pretty sure I put it to full because I was using the headunit for crossovers but never know...

Try some dynamat (or similar) in the doors, it may help. I've been using JL C5-650's in my doors for a few years and they do okay for mid-bass, I've also got a 28 band EQ so I can adjust pretty much everything. I run a 12" sub in the trunk powered by an Alpine PDX 1.600 amp.

I can hear mine top down at 80mph very clearly, and with great SQ. My system is old now, but it still works exceedingly well in the S.
