My old Diamond Audio's were better, but the JL's aren't bad.

It's really hard to know what you're getting nowadays without any car audio stores around anymore. I grew up in the 80/90's with car audio stores everywhere, I tend to stick with the brands that have been around the longest now, figure they still care a bit about the products.

I've liked Focals for years, but have never used them, I'd like to try them out one day.

I can hear mine top down at 80mph very clearly, and with great SQ. My system is old now, but it still works exceedingly well in the S.
This for sure! The doors, esp, have all kinds of vibrations (including up to the rear view mirrors!) --- which adds bad tones to the audios. Not just buzzing sounds, but some kind of cancelling effects on the speakers.

Good luck, with your fix!

Any spray on dampening solutions worth looking at?

Never used spray-on deadening. Just Dyna-mats sheets. These really work on sheet metal.

Agree, I've only ever used dynamat on my cars. Works very well.

I have the Focal components PS165 v1 and they do well being fed 100 watts each. 10" type-r in a sealed box in the trunk powered by an older Punch 225.2 bridged. Top down on the highway, no problem. Dynomat helped greatly up front.

One other thing about Focal in-door upgrades. I've seen these for BMW and Benz. They need an adapter to fit properly. But, some of the adapters on the market appear not to fit that well. And actually distort the speaker's frame. This may lead to improper operation.

You may need to DIY a proper adapter.

It might be worth rechecking your speaker wiring to make sure you didn't accidentally get your speakers
out of phase

The terminals were different sizes so it's pretty much fool proof
