OEM Sound System sucks
So I just got the S a few weeks back, and I HATE the sound system, I have a 2001, so I am assuming from what I can see and what I read, the entire system consists of 2 speakers.....
I have read a ton on threads and looked all over but I need some input from people with EXPERIENCE!!!!
First, headunit!!!! I am used to GPS, had it in my last ride, real nice 8" touch screen, voice commands bluetooth, I am not trying to get all that in the S, it's more of a drivers car, plus I never used the DVD player in the car before and don't see myself ever doing so.
So should I stick to a nice Alpine single DIN or is the JVC worth the extra money for the HDD and the nice huge screen for displaying track info and so forth.........I know the GSP on it isn't great since it's not touch screen and is not too user friendly in the 1 DIN size....should I opt for the lower model JVC and get just the DVD plus built in bluetooth version of the deck? They go for $400 on eBay........is the sound that much worse than a nice Alpine deck?
How is the built in bluetooth on the JVC?
Now, speakers, since I don't have a 2002+ I don't have factory tweeters, not sure what Honda was thinking, but I am going to retro some tweeters in the doors from a nice component set. I have used the Apline type r in the past and loved them, but I am not sure if they make those, and I don't like their type s series....
I am just going to have to go and take a listen to something else.........
rear speakers this is where I need experience mostly.....do the speakers in the rear panels really ADD to the system, if so how?
I cam across this on eBay: eBay link but from what I understand it is not good because there is a speaker blowing sound in your head, and it's not stereo like the 2006 models, which have 2 speakers in the roll bars just to add some rear fill.........
So how do the rear panel speakers compare? They just add rear fill? or overall cabin sound?
Can I use midbase speakers in the front for some beefier than stock base, I do not need too much too much LOWS, so I am trying to avoid the sub in the rear........
Also, I will be running speakers off the headunit, I do not want to lose space which is already limited to amps.....
And finally for wiring the rear speakers, does the kit from lucid ave everything I need? do I just run wires directly to the head unit for the rears? because they mention some harness so did honda prewire something for the rear speakers...
thanks in advance

The '01 speakers are so bad that swapping them out for better coaxs will
improve your sound. If you upgrade to components, you'll no doubt want
to swap your headunit too (as you plan).
If you plan on using headunit power alone, rear speakers of some sort are
a useful upgrade as they allow you to use all the (limited) power that the
headunit produces, helpful in a noisy car. People have generally heard either
roll hoop or rear panel speakers, but not both, so it's hard to give you a
comparison, but I'd say most people who've done either have been happy.
If not amping, pay particular attention to speaker efficiency.
If you do choose to add an amp, it's possible to install one above the
gas tank, taking up no useful space.
