save it for your house/apartment man lol....that's soemthign I'll never understand and especially w/a bare bones sports car like the S2K...why do people put so much emphasis on audio...don't get me wrong I like my ipod in the car but as to add a ton of weight for some sound I say c'mon

I know I know, to each his own, but I just can't help but cringe a little every time I see/hear of a major stereo setup w/amps, all kinds of fiberglass work...just reminds me of the the show Unique Whips where rap stars get the same done in their Lambo...just plain silly

just imagine what you could do w/ 4k motorwise

yea you can save at least $3,000 by not choosing terrible parts from a terrible place to buy said parts

$4,137.65...WOW!!! I like a nice system as much as the next guy, but I would really struggle to put that kind of cash into a system for a convertible since it's so tough to get great sound out of an open vehicle. I replaced my head unit for Christmas and I am going to replace the speakers before spring gets here. Other than that, I'm questioning how much more I'll put into the sound system. I'm of the opinion money can be spent better elsewhere.

i would do the alpine cda 105 - use modify wire harness

if your really like those jl speakers go ahead with those (you need spaces and they will have to be modified as normal spacers dont work on those speakers)
i would only sound deaden the doors. (outside skin behind speaker and inner panel)
use my footwell sub box (10" memphis, Box & speaker $400) you can upgrade to a alpine type R 10" for $500
and the the alpine pdx 4.150 amp
2 channels to door speakers - bridge 2 to sub.
thats it!

maybe $2000 in parts and $500 at most for install including all parts.

Yeah after sleeping on it 4gs is just way too much and the stereo doesn't sound terrible. I will probably skip the sub get a -$200 headunit, run nice components and dynamat the doors. Maybe a small amp for the components.. I listened to those JL ZR's and they do sound really really good though ANyone know if it is possible to get the JL Audio 6.5" components for a better price somewhere? I think I was quoted $849.00..

for that kind of budget you can definitely get a much nicer setup. heres an example of what you can get off the shelf at MSRP from crutchfield.

$250 JL 10WV3
$200 Darkside Sub Enclosure
$700 Focal KR2
$550 JL Audio XD700/5
$180 Alpine CDA-105
$100 Dynamat
$250 Misc Wires

for a total of $1930 for parts only, and if youd like to go down the DIY road you can stretch that dollar even further.

I'm just thinking of doing very nice Componenets up front with a nice amplifier to go with it. I don't want too much boom boom, the stock speakers boom enough for me. A headunit with built in crossover will enable me to adjust frequency so that should do. I have 2 questions left now..
1: Will Kenwood eXcelon units fit? <I love these personally, had 2 in the past>
2:Will I need a 2-Channel or 4-Channel amplifier for the components?

The stock headrest speakers suck so I will leave them be..
Thank you everyone for your advice!
