Options for music
Hi you can buy an adapter which plugs into the back of your original cd player, you plug it into the spot where your cd changer would plug in and then just hit the CD button twice on the radio to play from your new adapter, heres a link of an example

Where would I run the wire, it would plug in to the back of the radio but then how could I get it the passenger compartment and have it look clean
Because of the cost of the whole road trip im trying to keep spending down. So a modrify harness and a nice headunit would work, but for now id like to see if I can do it on more of a budget

There is a way to retain the hand controls on the left of the dash. Modifry.com
Kind of pricey for $99 but it comes with the harness. Install is easy, also comes with other features.
Just get a bluetooth headunit with variable color changing and set it to the orange to match the dash. I find the blue light on lots of aftermarket stereos are what make them look a little too flashy

I personally never use the hand controls anymore so i didnt get one but on my last s2000 I had it. it worked great.
This is the headunit I got after much research. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDCX...er-reviews-tab
Biggest thing for me was the bluetooth syncing needed to be flawless. I had a pioneer that would require me to turn on/off my bt on my phone everytime I turned the ignition on/off.
This one syncs up automatically no matter what. Sound quality is way better than stock, has variable color changing so I set it to the stock orange color.
Also has front aux and USB. Pandora, soundcloud, etc. all work via bt as well as google maps navigation voice commands.

+1 for this headunit. I have one that's very similar to it and I'm very surprised at the tremendous improvement in sound quality, not to mention the additional sources for music.
My Kenwood has XM, HD radio, USB, bluetooth calling, bluetooth audio and Pandora.
Are there any of these OEM harnesses that terminate in a generic female AUX input instead of the now obsolete 30 pin iPod/iPhone connector?
I would be tickled to just have a female AUX jack either surface mounted somewhere or even dangling out the back by the transmission tunnel.

Just bought, thanks you guys. I'm hoping it charges phones with USB connectors and iPods.
GTA car kits makes a plug and play unit for the S2000. It plugs into the CD changer port on the OEM headunit and can use a typical 3.5mm jack (headphone) or the antiquated Iphone cable. It works ok. I couldn't be bothered changing the head unit as the radio is off half the time, but I am pretty happy with it overall.

Or I can use a FM transmitter. Problem with that is when I used to use one it took up space on the cig lighter that I need for charging my phone and the music played really quiet, I could barely hear it top down. Maybe my FM transmitter just sucked, in which case id be willing to buy a better one.
They're not OEM harnesses. They're aftermarket interfaces. You can find them with 30 pin connections, AUX connections and even Bluetooth. USA Spec is one option mentioned above but there are the other usual suspects as well such as Grom Audio, PAC Audio, iSimple and others.
It plugs into the back of the OEM radio (mine is an '01 but should be the same as your '02) and has a 30-pin Apple plug and a 3.5mm plug.
On the radio, select CD as source and hit the [Repeat} button (if I remember correctly) to start playing music.
