PAC line converter and noise
Does something like the PAC line converter lend itself to a lot of engine noise? I can't figure out how to rid of the engine noise... I mean the PAC is grounded, and the RCA are good quality stuff, Streetwire ZN3.5. The only think I can thnk of is that PAC line converters itself just isn't good in isolating noise. Would an aftermarket unit such as the Nakamichi CD-45Z, http://www.nakamichi.com/auto/cdplayers/cd_45.htm, with 4V RCA out help solve the problem?

Well where did you ground the PAC to? If its to the head units ground which is also the ground for the amps then GREAT! If not then try doing that. Though line level converters are always going to introduce noise.
Usually a ground is at fault for causing noise.

the radio is still oem, so I haven't hcnage that ground.
The amp's ground I am nto 100% about.. I grounded it to the rear strut tower brace bolt.... is that even a good ground?

Any piece of metal frame is a good ground. Sand off any paint as this will definitely cause a problem. Some people like to use a star washer.
If the noise is constant you have a ground loop. This means something is not grounded well or your grounds are far enough apart that they are at different potentials.
If the noise varies with engine RPM this is alternator whine. This is also a sign of a bad ground. If you can turn off your amp and still hear it then the noise is in the speaker wire. Otherwise check out your Amp/Head/PAC grounds.
Also, make sure you're not running your amp power wire close to and parallel to your speaker wire. This can generate noise too.
I have the PAC line level converter, and I didn't have to ground it. I get no detectable buzz....

actually it's not in the engine compartment. It's on the lower dash area on thedriver side. There's a constant low tone popping and there's also alternator whine. Now, it I think it's in the PAC converter because if I pull the RCAs to the amp, the only thing that's left is a low tone popping, that could be a bad ground for the amp....
