Passport 8500 install this weekend
I am planning to install a Passport 8500 this weekend in my S. (I know I could have spent more on a V1, I didn't please let it go.) I am all set on running the wiring. What I am wondering about now is where to mount the "smart cord" remote. Any suggestions, pics? Also how do you guys mount the detector itself? I am leary of the suction cups as I have never had good luck with them. I found xVipers lexan visor mount and that seems pretty cool, but I would rather avoid that as I have already had a passenger flip down the visor and drop my garage door opener.
Looking for suggestions and pics.
BTW -- I did do multiple searches (and will continue to do more)

I didn't "trust" the suction cup mount either, more for the visibilty aspect, then the fall-off the windshield aspect. So, I used the Passport supplied visor mount, and mounted the 8500 to the front of the driver's side visor. This puts the detector out of view for most casual onlookers, and I think that even if a cop came up to ask you for your paperwork, he'd have to bend down pretty low to see the detector.
I can't use my visor anymore, but what the heck, that visor's a little useless, except to hold the air bag/seat belt warning labels. I'm tall enough to use the top of the windshield or a baseball cap to block the sun for that few minutes I may be headed directly East or West when the sun is at the worst angle for glare.
This puts the detector right above my eye-line when driving so I saw no need for the remote and used the direct wire connection. I coiled a little of the wire above the visor and then ran the wire under the windshield weather stripping, down along the door weather stripping, and then over to the fuse block.
PS: Get some velcro and mount your garage door opener to the dash, on horizontal section just to the lower left side of the steering wheel.

GREAT response thanks. I like the idea of the driver's side visor (I don't use it for anything except keeping the airbag warnings from blowing away, either.) I think I like the idea of the mute button on the smart cord being in reach though, and being able to run with the main detector blacked out is a pretty cool idea too.
Thanks for your help.
