Passport SRX Problem
I've recently installed a Passport SRX system in the S. While testing it out in a 'known' laser/radar area, I've been hit in the rear sensor numerous times without EVER seeing a person doing speed checks. Both day and night hits have occured. But always roughly in the same locations on the road.
And here's the kicker.
When I adjust the drivers or passenger side mirrors... I GET AN ALARM ! saying "Laser Alert" and it go's into shifting mode.
Now the system has built in diagnostics upon start up and the head unit checks the internal workings and the connections of all the laser blockers/detectors (2 in front - 1 in the rear) and there is no errors reported.
Personally I feel it maybe a voltage issue ??? Or something to do with the type of motors used in the mirrors ????
I don't know.. So I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone has had something like this before whether it was an SRX or not..

the SRX is a fully integrated system, so no lighter plug...
how odd...
and here's the weirder part.
my 8500 X50 will detect laser every so often when i'm driving in the wife's Odyssey. especially when i'm accelerating (like merging, etc.). i have no clue as to what's setting it off, as i can be 100% alone on the road. i was guessing it was possibly the DVD unit in the van, but it goes off even when the DVD is off.
ok -- this post made me curious enough, so i called and talked to Escort customer support -- they said they are actually somewhat familiar with this phenomenon! they mentioned that this occurs on rare occasions (approx 1 in 50,000 units) and is specific to the car. they experience it across all types of their detectors. as a fix, since i'm under warranty, they offered to have me send the unit back and install a filter, and they stated that it is EMF related interference in some fashion.
she mentioned specifically, that it is usually related to specific equipment and/or actions... in my case, acceleration. she mentioned they have had reports of horns, power seats, power doors, radios (on and off), acceleration, and a couple others. i don't think power mirrors is far fetched at all at this point.
and i just thought it was something weird w/ mine...

This was the reason for the post. As I could not 'quote' an article about this happening. I have heard of it before. And I thought maybe someone else had seen this, and infact I guess it's real.
I was also thinking it maybe the point of attachment for the power source,
I'm going to try and move the source of power for the unit itself and see if this clears anything.
My only concern at this point is whether the rear detector is alive and working to it's potential. I'd be pissed if it's dead weight and not protecting me.
I would still like to hear from anyone else that's seen anything like this.

awhile back i read a post wherein you could send your passport in to the manufacturer to be "tuned." Som of your internal setttings could be incorrect and this might add to your problem.
My garage door opening set off my laser once, but only once

I have had the same problem with the rear shifter. I will be driving along and bang, R Shifter alert. It happened in a parking lot when I was not moving. I think there alarm system might have set it off. My car has ben in the shop for ever so I will play with it when I get it back. It it happens when I get the car back I will send it back to Escort.
I'm screwed for Escort service as I got the unit off eBay and they won't cover any unit that was not installed by an 'authorized' dealer...
It maybe a design issue or installation issue.. I'm not done trying to figure this out.
There are so few people that have laid out the cash for this and have actually poster anything about it on the net, it's hard to say

as an update... last week i sent my unit back to Escort to have this looked at. it's supposed to come back to me in the next day or two.
i was eventually able to reproduce this problem (the weird laser alerts) over and over and over... it only occurs when: a) the Ody is running in typical gear at around 50 mph, b) the gas is floored and the transmission downshifts way down (like 2 gears or more?).
at higher speeds, it doesn't downshift far enough down, and at lower speeds it doesn't seem to happen. i'm guessing it must be a 2 gear downshift into 3rd or 2nd to trigger it. not sure which gear, nor am i particularly inclined to test...
i think it's 2nd.
they are supposedly installing a new laser section, and a filter (?) to fix it. i'll get the repair report later this week.

Dude, so cool you took the time to update this, Let me know what they say.
As I said, mine is when drivers mirror being turned down.. Very weird
I did see another thread on this forum RadarDetector dot Net
Someone claimed they had similar issues..
Please keep me updated on this..
Cheers

well, when i called them yesterday, they notified me that they received it on the 4th and it shipped back out on the 6th. he said i should have it today at the latest (assuming UPS doesn't screw it up like normal -- at least normal for them here.).
i'll let you know if it resolves the issue.
do you mind linking me to the thread, assuming you still remember it or can find it easily?
