Very cool, but I think you can see the disadvantage of mounting it low: you're picking up a lot of IR 'noise' off the roadway which means you don't get the full advantage of FLIR.

Yeah it is down low - unfortunately in the S2000 I don't have many options.
If I didn't care what it looked like I'd mount it ontop of the car someone like a periscope/snorkel lol. I suppose unless you have an SUV that rides high you're going to have to deal with the low perspective - although on the bright side you can angle the camera. My camera is down so low that when I'm pulled in behind another car at a stoplight, I can see the entire exhaust from the muffler all the way up to the front (glowing) - it's interesting.

btw those porsches with the engines in the back put off a TON of heat lol. Motorcycles.. Nissan GTR's show up pretty hot too lol.

Yeah the only place higher I could see to mount it that wouldn't look completely stupid would be in the upper right corner of the windshield on the passenger side, but you would have to fab a special mount and mount it upside down.

I wanted to mount it behind the windshield but yeah.. the design of the camera kinda gets in the way. Later on I read that because glass/plexiglass retain their own temperatures and can screw with the "vision" of the camera. So I read that the camera needs a direct line of sight to truly interpret what it's looking at.

Rooftops during the day, vehicle exhausts, transformer/electrical boxes, motorcycles, streetlights etc etc all radiate heat.

Toyota Priuses do not have hot exhausts for obvious reasons. (at least not the one I was looking at anyways lol).
