Default Pda + Gpa System, Did A Search

I went through about 15-20 threads on this subject. I learned somethings but am confused about the different gps systems. I was planing on this set up:

Dell Axiim X30 (624Mhz one, i think like 299)
Navman Bluetooth GPS for Pocket PC (479.99)
Vent Mount from SeidoOnline.com (69.95)

Do I need a larger SD card for the navman maps? Also, the ventmount from seido comes with a car adapter so my pda will be powered. It says they also have something for bluetooth wireless to power them. I'll look at it better. I also looked at the HP Ipaq 5555 but I will never use all its features, only downside is that it doesn't have Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition while the dell one does. Please let me know what you guys think and if I need anything else....thanks!

I like my Navman unit and how it uses standard batteries versus a built-in rechargeable. The longer operation life makes powering it a moot issue. It also comes with a nifty windshield mount.

Just to warn you, the mapping software package is mediocre. It didn't have a lot of restaurants and other points of interest. Try it out and see if you need to invest in better programs/content. The street price for the unit is also $250.

As for the PDAs, just get what you need. Memory card... minimally 256mb. A 512mb card would be really good size for maps, mp3s, and other stuff.

When you feel geekier, consider "overclocking" your PDA to make it run faster. I use one called Hack Master; you can buy it from Handango.com. When you feel geekier-still, consider the Microsoft Voice Command software. You can press a button and say, "Play <song name>" instead of clicking through a list to find songs.

If you are running the stock stereo (00-03), the PIE-AUX adapter is nice. You can run the audio from your PDA through your stereo system.

Good luck!

Hitman, do you recommend any other navigation software? From reviews, navman seems to be very good. I have no gps experience so it can be wrong. Anything else i should look into?

I have copilot live, but wouldn't recommend it, it's not very good, however, Mapopolis is supposed to be awesome, I played with the demo and almost bought it, but i realized I've sunk enough into GPS for the time being.

Software content comes from either Navtech or Tele-atlas. Navman's content is based off of Tele-Atlas and it is mediocre. I am finding many new areas (~2 years old) that aren't on the map that would have been on Navtech maps. However, I am frequently in well-established areas so I just tolerate it for the time being.

Mapopolis has excellent ratings and I would go that route if you have the means.

Myself, I am still determined to acquire software/content without necessarily spending money. I have not come across Mapopolis yet.

If you haven't already, search for Walkabt's reviews on Mapopolis since he is an avid user.
