Ok here are some more pics of the SRX. Sorry about the delay..
Here is the display in the mirror. I have it set to auto with a dot scrolling across the screen. I could have set it to be blank until something happens but I think it looks cool.
Volume control from the mute button.
This is the bottom of the mirror. This is the volume control and system power on and off.
This is a bigger picture of the bottom of the mirror. The two holes have the buttons to control the system settings. You can push a pen or small screw driver in there.
This is where we put the speaker. I had to get a speaker because it was hard to hear the speaker in the mirror when driving with the top down. It also talk to you.
This is where we put the mute button. If you get hit with laser you slow down and hit it twice to disable the shifter.
I'm so sorry to be asking so many questions on this, but see if you can answer these in point form.
- It appears as though you've used a NON S2000 mirror for this, is this correct? and if so, what mirror did you use(Car it came from) as it look as though the mirror your showing in the pics has ONSTAR buttons.
- Did the installer wipe/clean the refelective backing from the mirror glass itself prior to mounting the display behind it? Or are the LEDs just shining through that reflective mirror material?
-Do you have BOTH the remote LED(optional) and the big LED display installed in that mirror, or is it just the large one that was encased in that display box, the one that scrolls the text?
-The optional speaker that you placed in the seat back, aside from adding voice to all your prompts for laser/radar, you said the little one would NOT be heard, was that because it too was encased in the mirror now?
I've been checking back 4 times a day waiting for a response on this thread. I'm totally stoked on doing the mirror installation, just a little worried about what I'll find inside that display box once I open it up. I'm thinking a new larger mirror from what I can see..
Anyway, if you could help me out with these questions it would be great. Sorry to be a pain in the ass about this, but it was such a great idea you guys had to do this.
I do believe he wiped it clean. He made an oval on the right. I am not sure the details on how he did it. I would be more than happy to give you his phone number.
It is just the big led display. The one that scrolls text.
You can hear the sound out of the mirror with the top up and the music not loud. The problem is I drive with the top down most of the time and I crank the system. The talking is kinda cool because it will tell you the band and you don't have to look.
I just got my display module here to work on and I have to say Buddy earned his cash on this install. Once opened up this display basically has two boards to it. One for the guts/switch/small micro switches etc.. And another for the LED display. He had to unsolder the LED board from the small main board, clear the mirror backing off the glass, mount the LED to that cleared area and make it all fit.
I DON'T think I'm brave enough to attempt this. Soldering connections on the LED board are way to small for me and if I poooched it, I'd be pissed.
Anyways, It was great you did this for me and it helped to make up my mind as to what I was going to do. If anyone else has any ideas on where this tiny display cound be mounted or other mounting options, that would be great.
I think they charge $500 just for the mirror install part. He went through 2 mirrors and 3 radar units. It is a bitch to do, Danny cut and solder himself a couple of times. Only a couple of people have it in Georgia and they are high end cars or just people with a lot of $$$. I have seen the display mounted in the right vent above the radio. I have also seen it below the handle of the top in the plastic. I can ask the shop if you need some more ideas.
This is a fairly stealth place for a remote display.
It is far enough forward that it does not interfere with the radio door at all. There is enough to blend in with the background so someone would have to really know the car, or be looking for it fairly closely to find it.
