So as far as the texture is concerned, it's just basically textured paint that you painted over again in black, right? How well does it match up to the texture of the other interior trim pieces?

Yes.

It matched horribly... I FAILED!

It looks like I'm going to have to do it the hard way. There's a procedure wherein you can get some lacquer or resin (needs to be fluid) apply a thin coat (1mm) and lay some heat shrink plastic and get it to wrinkle, once its almost dry (not dry as you can't rip the plastic off) you carefully remove it and lighly sand any imperfections.

I really dont want to do the said above so I'm currently hunting down other possible alternatives.

WOW WOW - it's really a neat project and A+++ for innovative thinking. Best part is very little risk because worst comes to worse you just buy a new pillar

Can't wait to see the final results but I do have one question, what about the GPS antenna? normally it's on the top of the unit but now it will be covered right?

Turned out very good!
I like that.
Man, you got balls dismantling the GPS navigation!
I wouldn't mind the texture difference.
Maybe I'll give it a shot someday.
Thanks for your pics & effort.

Re: texture

Another option is to spray the other a-pillar and the upper windshield trim with your texture+paint so that all match...

i'm interested on the texturing... the only problem i have with messign with fiberglass for interiors is getting it to match the rest of the interior.

Here's another update....

Its done!!!!!!

On/Off Splash Screen

Speaker in the window defroster vent.

As you can see, I gave up texturing all together. Instead, I matched the guage cluster satin black. I'm not sure if I'll go ahead and paint the roof trim and the other a pillar but we shall see.

I like it

I think you should definitely paint the other parts too.

Another option would be to send the part to be textured. I think a company called leathermagic does that:
