PJK3's Odyssey Project - DONE!
i didn't mean to dismiss you over it Mike, but yeah, we had them and enjoyed them a great deal in the Saturn, but aside from practical jokes, we may have used them 6 or 8 times a year. it just doesn't get that cold down here.... it might dip near freezing for a week or so total all winter? maybe 2 weeks if it is a bitter cold winter. even over 5 years, that's a pretty high dollar/use investment... 30-40 uses? $400 i think for both? are heated seats really worth $10 / use over 5 years?
still, i will miss subtly turning one on in the dead of 100* summer, then watching the wife keep sweating and fiddling w/ the AC...

All Mini-van talk! Arg!

Seriously:
The leather looks GREAT. About 10,000,000 times better than that cloth.
I have not had great success with etronics. I had some issues with a CD changer I bought from them. The box was beat to CRAP when I got it. When I tried to return the unit (because it didn't work) they accused ME of destroying the box.
Hopefully your amps will work fine and you won't need to consider a return. The screen is a great idea with kids. A friend of mine put one in his truck. He was on a trip with his daughter when she was about 8. It was a 14hr drive home. About 20mins from the house she says: "I'm bored."
FOR THE FIRST TIME ALL TRIP!

Video games and movies will keep the kiddies entertained for quite a long time.
Get that wiring in and Get 'er DONE! Let's see some pics.
WHAT!! it gets super cold in Baton Rouge!!
I've heard that it gets below freezing like almost twice a year :zoiks!: That's friggin cold, man.. i don't know how you do it up there in the north Phil... jeez.

Willie,
Pete -- yeah, today i got my final pieces from knukonceptz that they missed when they shipped the order. so, wiring is good to go. i promised to let a friend of mine help install, because he wanted to learn some stuff and just generally help -- so, we're orchestrating schedules at the moment.
sounds like i need to drag the Alpha out to the S and just power it up to make sure it works.... i'll do that ASAP. all this dragging on my part won't hurt me much w/ the local store, but it will definitely hurt via etronics.
i'm currently trying to work out a sub box design now. the well isn't very deep (8" at the shallowest and 9" at deepest - sub is 6.5" deep), so i'm either going to have a bugger of a time getting a flush/stealth sub install, or i just need to build a basic box and live w/ the ugly. i did some calcs today at work on sizes for my most recent design, and i just don't have the depth to mount like i want to... so, i'm back to scratch on a sub box design. i may look into a triangular prism design tomorrow... (gotta do something when i'm at work.
)
we've got a local tech day this weekend coming (which i was going to skip for the install), but my friend has to do some wedding planning stuff - so i'm going. i'll probably cut and build the box this Sunday.

I don't know how stealth you can get with the oddie, esp if you are going to fold down that rear bench seat. You might just want to go cool. i went uber function with little or no bling, it was a work van after all. but I think you can come up with a cool looking set-up and fiber glass might just be a good trick. It got my head twirling a bit, because a neat sub enclosure can make a set-up go from ding to bling in a hurry.

(because I like bling... a lot) and still keep it nice and tight to the side.
I know DK will want you to make it out of fiberglass.

So Phil want some help
well, i don't want to sacrifice the flip-flop use of the rear "magic seat" - so i'm going to be pretty limited on what bling i can do. not to mention, it's got to withstand the stroller/luggage test over time.
here's where i'm planning to put it though --

in this well, hopefully flush with the main floor, readily removable, and leaving a nice helping of room for groceries, etc.
measurements?
front to back 21.5" bottom, 22.5 top".
depth front is 9.25", it slowly rises to a depth of 9" a foot from the back, and quickly rises to 8" at the back.
sub needs 1.25 cu ft sealed and 6.56" mounting depth. it's a JL 12W3v2.
my current plan?
a relatively simple 3/4" MDF rectangular box 8.25" high 21.5" long (front to back), and 18"-19" wide (left to right) (external dimensions). the front side wall will be 1.25" extended on the bottom to give an even height to the back, and a cut top/beauty board where the sub is mounted that curves to fit the well's upper contours.
i've also managed to acquire a very small amount of matching carpet to the interior. so, i'll be trying to carpet the top of the box to match, then use graphite colored carpet (on order from Select Products) to hopefully match the graphite in the interior for the rest of the box, amp rack, and crossover rack (most of which will be less visible)
believe me -- i've thought long and hard about fiberglassing the whole thing... but i'm not sure how manageable it would be for the wife to easily remove. not to mention, this is a family hauler... i want it to sound good, but bling isn't way high on the priority list when i get to thinking about the abuse it's going to take.
oh, and as always -- thanks for all the help and suggestions...
