Great setup! thanks for posting, great pics! Navtech seems to be the leader in mapping technology. One thing I really like about these portable systems is the user input routing capability. The user cant chose routes other than quickest, less freeway, etc with a built in Nav system. You cant really plan your own route.

Anybody know about the ALK Copilot? I've got a Compaq IPAQ and don't want to use a CF jacket, the Copilot has a GPS jacket with a CF slot... anyone?

If you want a PDA with NAV wait for the Garmin QUE. Check it out on their website.

UPDATE!

I connected the Hon-Aux connector to my stock stereo tonight. Then I downloaded a lot of MP3s to my Pocket PC (I have a good sized SD card). I connected an RCA to mini cable between the Hon-Aux and a Y splitter. The Y splitter goes to the HON-AUX cable and the Multimedia mount.

Next I programmed my HOME button to load Windows Media player and the INBOX button to load Mapopolis. In Mapopolis, I released the HOME button to standard Windows CE control (the INBOX button is mapped to "route to favorites" within Mapopolis).

Now I can press the HOME button to open WMP and start my playlist, then I press the INBOX button to open Mapopolis and navigate. To go back to WMP I press the HOME button and have WMP control, then press INBOX to go back to Mapopolis. Since I have the Axim advanced and enough memory both programs are loaded in memory without any problems. I programmed WMP to play while other programs are active and Mapopolis does the same.

The best part about this is that I get to listen to my music over my stereo AND I can hear the directions when they come up and it voices over the music, just like a real navigation system. If I switch to radio or internal CD I flip the volume on the multimedia mount to hear the NAV commands.

I keep getting more and more impressed with this setup each time I use it.

BTW, I reprogrammed the missed turn voice to "SERENITY NOW" from Seinfeld This little thing ROCKS!!!!

Quick question about that mounting arm. I checked out akron's website, they've got some sweet stuff there. Is that the arm that attaches to the seatbolt, or did you have to drill. Also, can a passenger still sit there reasonably comfortably, or is it a no go?

Love the setup, just ordered a copilot 4 from travroute with a cf sleeve for my Ipaq (Ipaq doesn't have a CF slot, only and SD). But this allows me to just slide the pda into the sleeve, and the sleeve has a CF slot, so I can put in my 1 GB microdrive for maps and mp3s.

Plus the mapping software has some features others don't, like the ability to set waypoints so you can plan an entire trip based on where you want to go, not the shortest route, lane change warnings and other cool stuff.

seat bolt - version 529. Yes a passenger can sit there with the mounting arm installed. CEO2B drove to the Irvine Megameet from Phx with a passenger. He now has the same setup.

You can set waypoints, called "route through" points in Mapopolis, which is considered to be the #1 mapping program on aximsite.com. They keep upgrading the software from user input. Now you can download your trip and import into Excel or Access, save and recall a route, add route through points, get traffic conditions and route through the congestion, and more.

Use the wireless internet feature on your PDA to connect to a real-time traffic site like this:

Phoenix

Los Angeles

Now you're cooking!

s2ka,

Mapopolis has this feature for many cities. It is called ClearRoute, built into the program but the service has a monthly fee. You can either download before you go or use wireless to stay current and reroute as conditions change.
