Default Polk EX3560 Component System Install Help!!!

I am presently installing my polk component tweeters and am at a standstill. How do you install these things so that they fit into the stock '02 tweeter ports, screw into the old tweeter metal bracket??

How did you handle connecting the Polk tweeter's wires into the honda plugs?

This is the first time i'ver ever installed speakers in a car and am feeling like i have biten off more than i can chew.

I've read this (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=71522) related posting but i don't see how one can pry off the black surrounds and once you do accomplish this without ruining the tweeter cone, how do you mount this to the OEM bracket??

Any help would be appreciated

Need pic to help.

I installed my MB Quart tweeters in the stock locations. They came with threaded holes in the center of the mags and screws that matched.

he wrote in your ref'ed thread...
I used the flush mount casing. Cut/notched it to fit between the two posts that the stock tweeter mounted to. Then I reused (bent middle tab out of the way) the stock metal plate that mounted to the posts. BTW, if you want to separate it from the stock tweet, first unscrew the center screw, then simply pry it from the stock tweet to separate the stupid glue."

Having done something like this, maybe I can help. What part don't you understand from the above? It makes sense to me.

On wiring:
The stock wiring for the tweeter should not be used. It is just Y'ed of from the stock 6" speaker. I assume that your Component system came with a crossover (black box with lot of screws). I mounted mine in the square box screwed to the door panel. I connected to the stock 6" speaker wire (using a harness adapter $5) to the input on the crossover. Then I connected the speakers directly to the crossover. The stock tweeter connector is just left hanging.

From what I understand you trying to fit and aftermarket tweeter in the stock pod. This is how I did it. I "Dremeled" out the stock tweeter grill, remove the stock tweeter and mounted the aftermarket speaker into the space.

That is very brief but here's a few pic's I hope this helps, let me know if I can help.

I have some from inside the door but I have to find the CD with the pictures on it.

On the top left are two of the polk tweeters. With all of the black surrounds, they are slightly too large to fit in the stock housing. The down facing tweeter on the bottom is the stock unit. It has a hole drilled in it for a screw and the clamp is right beside it.

Questions:

1) How do i remove that cladding on the polk tweeters so they fit?
2) Once the cladding is removed, how do i secure it to the bracket/clamp designed for the stock unit?

These were supposed to be "drop-in" speakers but they obviously aren't.

Did the Polk speakers come with any type of tweeter pod? or bracket/holder?

They sure did. But they do not fit into the tweeter port or match up with the holes of the oem bracket.

Gantra,

I installed the same components into my '02 stock pods by slightly shaving the inside of the posts to let the tweeters slide in. I also had to cut two notches out of each tweeter's black plastic to help (this has a benefit of keeping the tweeters from spinning). Then I crimped/cut the extra tongue off the metal bracket you included in your picture and re-mounted the bracket to the stock pod posts. The bracket will hold the tweeters in place.

Be careful not to shave too much off the posts.

Sorry, no camera...so no pics.

staffordaz,

Thanks for the reply. that was very helpful to me. So you just used the very snug fit of the tweeters against the rails and the bracket behind to brace them and keep them positioned? Did you consider using any kind of adhesive/glue to attach the metal backing of the tweeter to the bracket?

Another questions: Did you soder the wires or use some other technique to attach them?

Finally, when you cut out the plastic backing for the 6.5 inch speakers, how did you handle protecting them from water?

Thanks a bunch!
