Default Power Inverter

Hey All,

Well, thanks to all the information on this site, I was able to install a Kenwood KDC-X890 on the first try, being the first time I've ever touched a car stereo! What a great site!

Anyway... my question is this. I have an external PC USB hard drive that I am hooking up to my stereo. I purchased a Vector Maxx SST 100W Power Inverter, which you can see here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1138086673572

Well, the little guy works fine, powers my HD with no problem. HOWEVER, the fan inside it is Extremely Loud. So my question is, is this standard? If not, does anyone have a particular brand they could suggest?

Try to find an inverter with a larger fan that spins at a lower RPM. To be honest with you, most low watt inverters will have a small fan which spins at high RPM's hence the increased noise. Good luck but I have yet to find a small quiet inverter

Thats exactly what I did. I returned my 150watt inverter for a 400 watt inverter and I don't hear it at all! Thanks!

Why are you running the USB drive off 115VAC? Hard drives are 12/5VDC devices so your device has an adaptor to convert 115VAC to 12/5VDC (internal or external). You're going around in circles.

If your USB drive has an external adaptor dump it and the Inverter and either wire direct or use a 12/12 converter (really just for filtering). If it doesn't, you got the wrong USB drive.

^ What he said.

I have a 12V to 120V inverter. I usually use it for powering the video camera or a laptop. It's about the size of a brick, really low wattage and just has a heavy heat sink on it.
