i can get 3 of the 4 screws out to remove the stock hu....
the 4th will just keep turning but will not actually come out....

i've often used these techniques in cases like this...
get a small thin flat head or razor blade (careful!) under an edge of the screw. pry lightly on it while unscrewing.
also, you can also use a set of needle nose pliers to pull a bit and turn to get things started.
generally you don't need much force to get things out...

I read somewhere that heating up the screwhead using a soldering iron has also helped out...
Disclaimer - I haven't tried it, but I know I had to use a large screwdriver to remove the screws in the side of the stock HU, while pulling the bracket upwards.

One of the four screws holding the OEM radio to the bracket (not the bracket to the car) was so tight I could not get it out - even with a quality, proper size screwdriver.
I ended up using a pair of real Vice-Grips to lock onto the screw and turn it along with the screwdriver while one of my sons held the radio. I have NO IDEA why the freakin' radio was torqued in so tight (the other 3 screws required a lot of force to remove too). You would think this was some important part of the car - not just the radio.

i wonder how much money is spent via domestic dealers doing warranty work in chasing down rattles for customers.
at least, that's my guess.
