Purchasing Car Audio Equipment from U.S
Hey There,
I live in Melbourne Australia. I am interested in purchasing some soundstream audio equipment. what i want purchased here will work out to around $3000 AUD, ($2200USD).
I have looked on some U.S websites selling car audio and i can get the same equipment for $800USD, or $1000AUD. Is car audio really this cheap in U.S? I hope i'm not looking at a dodgy website.
What i would like is if someone could provide me with the name or website of a reputable store where i can purchase legit equipment without getting ripped off?
Would appreciate some help.

A legit store would be Sounddomain
www.sounddomain.com I'm not sure if they ship internationally, but they probably will.
When dealing with expensive toys, ALWAY be sure you're buying from an authorized dealer (sounddomain is an authorized dealer for most, if not all of their brands).
What are you looking for?

What is your budget for the whole entire system? I'm sure there are guys here that will be more than willing to pile you system. A capacitor should be the last thing you invest in because you do not know if you even need one.
Haev you heard any splits around your area that you like? What's the best set you have heard so far? This will give us an idea of what type of sound you like.

With regards to price range - I'm willing to spend the money; as long as i get the correct, quality equipment.
I am a newbie to car audio, this will be my first non stock car system. I have been reading up on car audio websites to familiarise myself with speaker ohm ratings, speaker outputs in RMS and to ignore the Max power bullshit ratings etc.
What i want is loud ass bass, and the most powerful splits i can put in the doors as i can only fit in two speakers with tweeters.
I listen to house, r&b,hip hop, trance and techno music.
I havent heard any of the equipment, only seen it in stores. I have been looking around and researching car audio because i dont want to buy something and be unhappy with it. I went to a few stores and they all tried to flog me soundstream equipment as opposed to say fusion or alpine. I've read some stuff about soundstream and it seems like they produce quality stuff (am i wrong?)
I went to a hi-fi store here and they tried to sell me all this pioneer stuff; it is good for the price but doesnt provide me with the power levels i would like. Having an s2k there is limited speaker space, i can only place 1 sub and two speakers so i want as much clout as i can get out of them.
Would appreciate any input that would help me make a better purchase.

Soundstream is not what they use to be. They are now under a new ownership. My best advice is to go to a store and see what they have for offerings. Find a set of splits that you feel you will like for a long time. When you do find one, let us know. This forum has a diversity of taste so you know someone out there may share the same taste as you.
How much space are you willing to give up, and exactly how loud do you need it to be?

As far as the capacitor goes.....what is the wattage you will be pushing? I think the general rule of thumb is anything over 800WRMS and you should use one......not 100% sure on this, as I have not had to use one ...... yet.
