Default Question for Modifry

Will the Sony wired DCI work on the new JVC KD-AVX1 that comes with a DCI wired input?

Due to it being a DVD player it's face is angled upwards to watch the LCD, so I don't know if the IR would work on it unless I put one in the radio door and one in the A/C vent also.

Or is the dispersion pattern on the IR LED wide enough to hit it?

Or could you modify the wired one to work with the JVC?

let me know,

The wired input will only wrk if the JVC's wired control is compatible with Sony's RM-X4S. I highly doubt they would do this, but then Dension made their MP3 head units compatible with it so check the spec.

That doesn't mean Modifry can't make a version compatible with it though. Just have to be really persuasive.

The DCI IR emitter is wide-angle, but operation does depend on how the IR receiver is positioned on the HU. You can use more than one IR emitter if you need to, just wire them in series. Nearly any IR led can be used, I'm sure Radio Shack has some for a buck or two.

I would doubt JVC made the unit specifically to operate with the Sony remote, but that doesn't mean it won't. Are you sure the Denison unit was designed for the Sony remote, or just that it works?

Most autos with steering wheel controls operate similarly to the Sony remote, so if the JVC is reasonably "universal" it will probably work on at least some of the functions. The Sony is a 2-wire device, using a "shift" key on a separate wire to get extra functions, and the DCI does that too. If the JVC is intended for the simpler 1-wire controls not all the functions of the DCI will work with it.

I did some Internet searching, including JVC's web site, and can't find diddly about the thing, except that JVC says it has "steering wheel remote support". No details at all. I emailed them but don't expect to hear back (the only reply I've ever gotten from a manufacturer was to tell me they wouldn't give me any information).

If you get any details I'd be interested in hearing about it. My S2KI email works.

Dension's site used to say 'compatible with RM-X4S' but I looked today and it appears to have been changed.

Cool. I wonder if it supports the "shifted" functions? These are "Next/Previous Radio Preset" and "Next/Previous Folder" so it would suck if they didn't work.

Ok, the plug is a 3 conductor mini-plug, and according to JVC, SoundGate is the company to make the adapters, of couse the don't make one for the S, or any Honda for that matter.

Does that format support the Sony plug?

and your email doesn't work for me and neither does you PM

Well, it sounds like it's the same plug Sony uses, a 3.5mm stereo plug.

But instead of simple resistors on the various switches it could use demodulated IR signals (like blaupunkt) which would not be compatible with the current crop of DCI's. I am currently working on wired functionality for Pioneer and Alpine, I guess I need to add JVC to the list.

Odd about the email, it works for me. Maybe it doesn't work for "guests". I'll try emailing you just as a test. I turned off my PM's because it got impossible to keep up with both.
