Exclamation Question: The Ultimate Sound System

Hi S2ki community,

I'd like to hear everyone's opinion about this speaker setup that I am designing/considering.

Currently, I have 4 speakers in the car:
- 2 tweeters (I believe they are focals, although they may be OEM)
- 2 Focal Component speakers (in the doors)
- Aftermarket Alpine Head Unit UTE73BT

I'd like to go for a 11 speaker system to have an out-of-the-water music experience when I drive my s2000 around.

Notes:
- I will be dynamating the two doors and trunk lid
- Depending on how the car sounds after dynamating the two doors and trunk lid, I may also dynamat the floorboards.

So here are the additions that I would like to make:
- 2 additional tweeters on the door (I bought red leather inserts for my black doors and they came with 2 diamond tweeters on there, so I'd figure I might as well install them.)
- 2 OEM roll hoop speakers for each side (driver & passenger)
- 2 Coaxial speakers in the rear plastic vents behind the drivers seat (need recommendations on which coaxials would pair well with my Focal components in the doors please!)
- 1 JL subwoofer for the trunk
- 1 amp to power all of the new additions (aside from the 2 tweeters in the door. I plan on splicing these tweeters to the Focal crossovers mounted on the door panels. Can someone confirm for me if this would work?)

So in terms of wiring/connecting the speakers, this is what I am envisioning...
- Head Unit to amp connection (amp installed in trunk)

Amp to power the following:
a) 2 OEM roll hoop speakers (if the plug n play harness can connect to the headunit, i may just do that)
b) 2 Coaxial speakers (direct connection to amp input)
c) 1 JL subwoofer (direct connection to amp input)

Headunit to power the following:
a) 2 Focal components in door (already powered by headunit)
b) 2 Focal(?) tweeters in door (already powered by headunit)
c) 2 Diamond tweeters in door

So my questions for this post specifically are...
1. Which amp would be suitable for my setup of 5 additional speakers?
2. Will my +2 additional tweeters in the door be powered if i wire them to the crossover?
3a. Which Coaxial speakers should I add to my rear vent panels? Or should I add component speakers instead?
3b. Should I add component speakers instead?
3c. Should I go with Focals since I already have 2 Focal Components in the doors?

Please give me tips and pointers! I plan on making a DIY for this as well with detailed pics!

P.S. I don't need snarky remarks about overkill or this setup being a waste of money... It's just something that I want to do and try out. If the setup isn't so good, I can just remove the parts. Kind comments appreciated!

Thanks,
Jay

Man with all those tweeters sounds like your trying to go deaf!

What kind of Focal components do you have? I would try to run the doors off an amp at the very least before adding a bunch of new speakers, the head unit power is probably why you feel like its not loud enough.

Ideally: A good 5 channel amp, components in the door, roll hoops, and a single 10 in the trunk should be VERY loud. I'm personally not even going with any rear fill, the car is small and its not ideal for staging anyway.

Hi Ankur194, thanks for the response.

Is it bad to have too many tweeters in the car? If I fade/balance them correctly, wont it provide a fuller sound?

Hey guys, another question that i have is...

Is it an odd setup to have my 2 components and 2 tweeters in the door powered by the headunit, and to power the headrest speakers, 2 coaxials (or components) in the vent panel, and subwoofer through an amp?

Will this type of setup even work?

Neither good nor bad, depends on what you are going for.Staging correctly is what is going to give you immersive sound.

You really want to run an amp to the components, they are the main stage speakers. The more power they have, and the better quality they are the better its going to sound.

Having recently just gone through all this, here's what I would suggest:

You have a head unit you like with some front components you like.

Look for some speakers and subs that you like and note the wattage requirements. Don't buy speakers yet.

Buy a 5-channel amp that will meet the wattage requirements of your planned setup.

Buy the sub. Power fronts and subs off the amp. You may find this is plenty for you and you can stop here.

If not, buy the coaxials and power those off the remaining amp leads.

Buy the rest of your components and power them off the head unit. If I understand all the wiring correctly, you'll lose the ability to fade front/rear at this point.

If you're happy with the sound at this point, you're done! I suspect though the balance will be off somewhere and you'll either want to get another amp or take out some components.

Having said all that, 11 speakers seems way overkill. My planned setup seems overkill already (component fronts, 2 subs rear - I just wanted to use up all the leads) with a small class d amp. The S is not that big of a car that you need to fill up (audio) space. At least this route you can upgrade in stages and call it quits when you're satisfied.
