Default Radar detector on top of secret compartment?

Hi,

Now that I've bought a Passport 8500 X50 and "hard wired" it, mounting it on the windshield, I wonder if it would work to mount it on top of the secret compartment (ignoring the fact that I would have to make the mount myself). It seem like it would be a lot less comspicuous, and would not block any of the important visibility.

Has anyone tried that, and, if so, how did it work?

If I still lived in Virginia, I probably would do the same . Do you lose the ability to detect laser from behind?

not sure, but i'm assuming i've probably lost both front and rear laser, not too big of a deal since it's not used too much here anyway
