On top of the compartment you are halfassing the radar. It will "read" 40% of your dash, and 100% of your top. If you want it to work like it is supposed to, mount it directly on the left of the rearview mirror. The radar has a clear view down the middle of the front and the rear. Also, cake to wire. Radar company's have done many hours of research on radar mounting, do it right.

Also, isnt your wind deflector in the way?? Bad idea IMHO.

ANyway, if you still want to do it, run the wire from the fuse panel by your left foot (driver) and plug it into C, the third male.

Run the wire down the door sill, and up the rear panel.

Here's mine (posted in a couple other threads, but copied here for convenience):

I used parts from the Universal Radar Detector mount from Radio Shack. It slides under the hinge (with the metal parts covered by a bit of rubber for a better fit and so it wouldn't scratch). Added a small piece of velcro, so if I want I can reach back (without turning my body) and remove it if I feel a little discretion is in order...

The V1 cord is run under the concole cover, under the panel behind the seats, and out the grill opening there. Since I have the remote also, which taps into a wire under the dash, the V1 gets power through there.

I couldn't measure any difference in detection range. Driving along various well-known stretches of roadwhere I pick up the standard door-opener signals, I still pick them up just as far away. Laser is probably reduced, but it's a crapshoot whether or not you'll pick it up in time anyway.

Sorry, not to rain on anyone's parade, and I give you credit for the work, but I dont see how doing all that, plus having your radar backwards, plus having to buy the remote display, is ANY better, nicer, cleaner, cheaper to install than the regular neat hardwire next to the rearview.

If you haven't purchased a V1 and want stealth, you might want to consider the Escort Passport SR7. It's basically a Passport 8500 stealth system. They are very similiar in performance. The SR7 has a little better range in a couple of the KA bands and slightly less range in most of the X band.

I don't recommend their "higher end model" the SRX. The SR7 has newer electronics. You can get more info here.

This is how i had mine installed. The main radar sensor is mounted inside the front grill. At first I was concerned that the low mounting point would hinder range and I'm sure it does. However, the range is still terrific.

"Radar backwards"? The first pic is taken from the back......

The remote is especially essential (from my point of view) if you're installing it near the visor. I don't want to display an entire light show to anyone behind me, especially Mr. Highway Patrol.....

I prefer it mounted where it doesn't call attention to itself, and, like I mentioned before, it's easy to remove and hide without being obvious about it.

But hey, to each his own.....

Evil G has the hottest setup...totally hidden in the secret lid, display in the rearview mirror, embedded in the glass.

I have mine mounted DEAD center, and also have the remote display mounted in my car. I built a bracket that I attached to the mirror mount, like you can get for Corvettes.
