Default Radio Head unit removal on 2005 model?

I've removed & refitted a MY02 stereo and it was just like this:
http://lucidauto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv...ode=radioremove

however on the 2005 model, whilst i managed to get the front radio surrounding trim off, it won't go back on again. The lower edge of the trim piece, has three clips which push back into the dash, but the lower edge catches on the new centre-console plastic in around the gear shift. This prevents the three clips from being lined up or inserted.

Should I take the centre console plastic off first? And how to do it as there seem to be no screws?

TIA

i am not sure about the trim piece but center consol plastic comes off very easy. just lift from the bottom the plastic straight up. there are few clips i dunno exactly how many but it will come off. start from one corner and just go around.

Are you sure that applies on 2005 model? The centre console plastic seems to be firmly fixed in the middle around the gearshift, at at the rear, and, pulling the edges upwards feels as though the plastic is going to snap?

The center console comes off in one piece.

Any diagrams of where the clips are and how to lift? Wonder if the 2005 centre console is the same as other years? It feels *mighty* like it's going to snap when I pull up the edges & the plastic bends.

I have a 2004 and didn't have any problems removing and re-inserting the center console. When re-inserting it, it worked well when I inserted the top portion (vents) first, then slowly worked my way down. While working my way down, I would occasionally push on the top portion again to make it as snug as possible. If the bottom portion still isn't fitting because it's being blocked by the plastic near the shifter, it's likely the top portion wasn't inserted all the way in. Did you replace the head unit? You also might want to make sure the new head unit is sitting properly in the enclosure. Good luck!

Thanks but there are two parts here:

1. Radio head unit facia surround (with two vents at top)

2. Plastic centre console on the centre tunnel around the gearshift.

After removing (1), I am unable to replace it because there is not enough space between (2) and the dash, to insert the bottom of (1) and fit the three lower clips on (1) into their holes in the dash face.

The only solution would seem to be removing (2) before attempting to fit (1).

On 2002 model, (2) did not run so close to the dash. But now on a 2005 model, the problem is new as the centre console has been expanded.

Sorry I couldn't be of help. I don't know if the 05 is different from the 04. I also removed (2) but I was able to re-insert (1) after (2) was back in place. I had to remove (2) more than once and remember having the same problems you mentioned. Even though it looked as if (2) was all the way in on the top, it still had some room to go in further. I remember flexing it a bit just to get it in first then everything fell into place.

I have an '05, and ran in to the same problems.
The center console trim (around the shifter) comes off really easily, though it seems like you'll break it. Stick a trim puller under there or wrap a butter knife in electrical tape and pry it up (you could even use your fingers, like I did). I think there are in the range of 6-8 clips on that thing. First, pop the two clips off in the front or back corners, then you'll be able to figure out where the rest are. Pop the clips off and just pull the thing back about 4 inches (you don't have to completely remove the piece, it's easier to just leave it attached to the shifter).

The whole procedure goes like this:
Pull the center console trim up and back, towards the rear of the car.
Take off the radio fascia.
Do something to your stereo.
Put the radio fascia back on.
Put the center console trim back on.
