I'm fairly happy with my Focal Utopia 165Ws - they're not the cheapest speaker on the market but the sound quality and power handling is pretty damn good!

Ill rate as to my opinions and use....

1. Infinity Kappa Perfects 6.1

-amazing highs
-crystal clear sound
-take power like its water
-retail for 600+, but can be had for mid 200's

cons
-not a lot of midbass

2. MBQUART Q's

-amazing highs
-crystal clear sound

Cons
-cant handle a lot of power
-blow too easily for a speaker of this price
-cost you your firstborn and wife (500+ is a good deal)

3. Focal Utopias 165W

-amazing highs
-crystal clear sound

Cons
-cost more than a boob job....(600+ is a good deal)

4. JL Audio XR series

-crisp highs
-clean sound
-take power

Cons

-expensive
-fitments issues with many applications

These are all TOP OF THE LINE speakers of the provided manufacturers.

I like CDT components. www.thezeb.com

Focal and Quart are always good choices but too bright for me.

Boston Accoustic Pro Series. The set is rated at 3 Ohms, so they draw more power out of your amplifier than a standard 4 Ohm speaker. Also, the crossovers have jumpers that allow you to fine-tune the tweeter levels. I bought a set used for ~$300 and have been very pleased.

A little off-topic but does anyone know if the CDT CL-61's will fit in the door? The mounting depth is 2 7/8" (73mm).

check out the S2000 Audio FAQ -- lots of good recommendations there.

i personally have the Focal PolyKevlars (165K2), and i'm quite fond of them... they can easily be had for less than $500 a pair.

I don't really like anything I've heard with titanium tweeters (ie MB Quart). They sound too harsh IMO. I prefer a silk tweeter. One of my favorite components are Diamond Audio's.

I have MB Quart DSE's and I don't really like them b/c of the titanium tweeter, I'd go with a softdome like the CDT's.

If I upgraded, I'd really prefer some 3-way component speakers with the mid mounted in a kick panel location as it seems my leg and sometimes my passenger's leg blocks all the mid range from the speakers. So all I seem to get is a lot of highs and lows, with a muffled midrange.

I really like Dynaudio's 3 ways with the soft done tweeter and soft dome 3 inch midrange in like a kick panel location.
