I have installed it finally. I cannot get my Photo Album to work properly but I will post pics as soon as I get it working.

The receiver is excellent except for one minor quirk. I cannot find or it does not have an Illumination lead. If the radio is off, the whole face plate is off. I am just anal I guess, but aside from this, the unit ROCKS!!!!

I was wondering if there really is a lead for it that Alpine just didn't made available for us. Hmmmm.

I just looked in the CDA-7878 manual and the CDA-7876 manual. The CDA-7876 has an orange wire for illumination that the CDA-7878 manual does not show.

Does the CDA-7878 harness have an orange wire?

My clock works when my radio is turned off.

Barry,

It does not have the orange wire on the harness. If I set the radio to "clock" mode. It leaves the clock displaying even if I turn off the radio but If I set it to a different mode like, "ID3 tag" mode (where it scrolls through the ID3 tag of the MP3 file), the radio does not display the clock at all and there's no illumination whatsoever after I turn the radio off. I am just used to having the Illumination feature on most aftermarket radios that I've installed. It is no biggie, but it would be neat if the buttons light up whenever I turn the turn/head lights on. Oh well, a small flaw that I can easily overlook. If only I have my Perfects now, I'd be too busy installing the speakers for me to loose sleep over this

Hi Guys,

What are the major differences between the 7878, the 7877, and the 7876?

Thanks... nico

7878 is 45 watts x 4; does MP3 as well as CD-Text
7977 no watts, needs an amp, does not do MP3, does CD-Text
7876 is 60 watts x 4, does not do MP3, does CD-Text

There are lots of other differences but those are the most salient.
CDA-7977 is a "high end" tuner. CDA-7878 is the new flagship and has a fancier CD deck (as does the 7977) but is lower power. C&A-7876 has an illumination lead, higher power, not quite as flexible tone controls as the 7878.

I'm not sure about prices, but I think the CDA-7878 is $800, the CDA-7977 is about the same and the CDA-7876 is about $450.

There is no CDA-7877 as far as I know, at least not in the USA.

I hope this helps.

Barry
