Rear Speaker Cables/Wires
Hi all,
I just got my new 2004 S2K a week ago, and now I'm in the process of adding an adapter to allow iPod play. My question is, is there any sort of wiring already in place to the rear speakers? I'd like to know so just in case, I can tell the techies to place wiring to the back speaker panels so when I'm ready to add them it will make my life easier.
Thanks,
Eugene

To simply answer your question: No.
HOWEVER.... Keep in mind that if you build out a system (which I realize you may not be interested in) then you are going to want to have an amp. Now, some people run their rears off of the HU, and not an amp, but, if you decide to amp the rears you will need the wireing run to wherever you mount the amp. So if you are 100% sure that any rears would be driven off of the HU, then have them run the wires. Otherwise I would wait until you decide where the wires are to be run from.

Here's the thing: i just got my iPod setup installed and it kicks-ass! I have the RCA to Mini cable routed underneath the center console and through the cupholder (will never be used except for awesome stealthy iPod action). Now the sound is -okay- (for stock), but I wanted to put rear speakers behind the seats, and this custom shop I went to offered to do it for cheap.
Now my question is: if I decide to later add an Amp, what kind of Amp, and how/where should the wiring go? I assumed that that was an issue the shop would handle.
Anyway, as usual, your opinions matter.

IMO, it is far easier to do the upgrades all at once. Then you just need to pull wires once, tear everyting apart once etc. Where your wiring goes depends on how you set the system up. If you use stock HU you will need an amp that will accept speaker level inputs. If you go with aftermarket then you will need RCA's from the HU to the amp, and speaker wires to your speakers. What is your plan?
My plan:
I've decided that for now, I won't be getting an Amp. I feel that the cabin is so small anyway that all that power will just rattle the trunk lid (or something else. my opinion is based on my experience with other people's amps).
What I will be doing is getting an Alpine later this year when those "ai-Net" interfaces start coming out on the HUs that allow you to control your iPod through the HU (I'll also be getting the DCI thingy so I can use the controls on the dash).
I also want rear speakers because I would like to hear my music on the freeway. If it's possible to power rear speakers with the stock ones via the stock HU, then that's what I will be doing. Now my only question is what kind of speakers to get? I will be listening mainly to Jazz and Classical music, maybe some Rock occasionally, but no Hip/Hop, so I'd like speaker recommendations better suited for my musical tastes (also another reason why I don't think I'll want/need an Amplifier).
Right now, I have an iPod attached to my stock HU. I used the PIE HON2003/SON adapter (for the 2003 Accord).
Thanks,
Eugene

So confused, so little time.
You said you got S-Pods. That is a rear speaker solution. Are you saying that want to add rear speakers behind the seats too?
An amp will not rattle anything by itself. If you add a subwoofer, then that could rattle the trunk, but you don't have to add one.
You can run it all off of a HU, either factory or aftermarket, but you may still be dissapointed by the volume at speed.

I haven't gotten any S-Pods yet. I'd like to get a rear speaker solution (as in behind the seats where the panels are, not headrest speakers). I'm thinking of using 6.5" Focal speakers since I will be listening to more Classical and Jazz music, as opposed to Hip/hop.
Also, getting a good Amp costs too much (to buy and then to install). The Focals are going to be expensive enough. But maybe they're excessive for what I'm going to do with them...
