Default Rear speaker wiring question...

Hey everyone, I see that quite a few people have been putting extra speakers behind their seats, or in the roll hoops. I saw a post a while back from a guy that said he didnt need an amp to power the rear speakers. Is this possible to run extra speakers without an amp? If so, what is a good way to do it?

Thanks!

no you dont need an amp but it would sound better if you did.

you can run speaker wire from your stereo and use that to power whatever speakers you want to get.

the stock ap2 hoop speakers are not run by an amp and they are loud enough. some people disconnect them.

if you mount them behind the seat it probably wont be very loud unless you have an amp.

Alright thanks.

I havent pulled my HU out so I wouldnt know, but does our OEM headunit have wires for rear speakers coming from the back of it? I guess thats what I was trying to figure out. I know we just have front speakers, and never thought about the HU having the wiring for rear ones.

I am not sure about all the years, but my 02 has a place for connecting rear or headrest speakers. Search I believe "DIY sub with stock headunit" that is how I connected my sub to my stock headunit. I used the rear speaker connection on the back of the stock headunit.

Thank you! Thats exactly what I needed to know. I also have an 02, and I know all the ap2 headunits are the same as mine.

Okay since you have done that, are the rear speaker connections behind the headunit, and you have to run wire? Or do they run back behind the seats or something?

my 02 did not have the wires. i had to use the little clips from a computer power supply to stick in the harness to actually run the wires. i am looking for the link, but i can not find it.
