Default Rear Speakers

I just installed some 5.25" rear speakers in my S. It really made a huge difference in the sound. I used Lucid's adaptor and some Sony Xplod speakers. The total price for the installation ran about $100-120 and a few hours time (most of which was spent trying to cut the rear panels and mount the speakers). Definately one of the better mods for the money. If you're on the fence about the installation I'd definately recommend going for it.

The FAQ section helped immensely, thanks to all those who helped create it!

Congrats!
Hey where did you find info on installing rear speakers? I looked around and didnt see much.

I am kicking around the idea of installing one or 2 small 5 or 6.5 inch subs in the back wall behind the seats.

Biggest problem in the rear is depth. Check the specs on the ones that are sold though the Lucid site and that will give you an idea of how much room you have to work with behind the panel without cutting metal.

You'll have to get some pretty small sub... like one with a neo magnet... that or cut a bunch of metal out of the way.
This is what it looks like behind those little panels:

Good picture thanks!

Can anyone point me to the Lucid products that are mentioned? Do they help?

Can you guys list what exact speaker model you used back there?

I want to look up their magnet size and depth, to get an idea what fits.

Thanks!

The 6.5 I am looking at has these dimensions:
A: 7", B: 5-1/2", C: 3-5/8

The 5.25 inch drier has these dimensions:
A: 6-1/8", B: 4-3/4", C: 3-1/8"

The 4 inch sub has these dimensions:
Overall Diameter: 4-9/16", Cutout Diameter: 3-3/4", Mounting Depth: 3"

I doubt the 6.5 will fit, but the 5.25 looks promising, eh?

One problem may be that a Sub moves a bit too much for the flimsy mounting options there?

John -

I puchased the Lucid rear speaker kit that has the 5.25" Kenwoods. That was my original audio mod to the S2k besides some sound deadening work in the trunk. The kit did work exactly as advertised and was a pretty quick upgrade that simply bolted in after stringing the wiring. They do provide excellent instructions for the task.

Lucid's Kenwood Rear Speaker Kit

I do like the fact that my original rear panels are still intact and on a shelf so I can return the system to stock whenever I decide to sell this car.

In my case it turned out to the first steps down a very slippery slope and at this point they are almost all that is left of the audio system that was in my car after the rear speaker installation.

Hanging out in this forum can be quite deadly for your wallet

I did research based on the pictures... If you guys use the Kenwood KFC-1379ie, thats only 1 3/16 inch depth ...

if you use the Kenwood KFC-1389ie, thats only 2 1/16 inch depth.

Its going to be hard to get that shallow, do you think theres 3 inches in there?
