700 seems like alot to drop on a HU if you only spending 1k that kinda kills your budget if you do it right you can get a sub in that deal too for 1k

Well... the whole point of my project was not to go with a sub. I really don't need the bass. I just wanted a good hu with good sounding components. I figured amp will help with the good sounding part. I wanted giga mp3 feature with divx, and for couple hundred extra for nav sounded like a good add on. Plus the HDD sold me on the head unit. (but now, AVX33+external usb hdd sounds like a good option too ~$450)
I was looking at 4ch amps thinking I might install rear speakers later down the road.
Maybe I should just do the HU+DCI+components and call it a good day?

I am waiting to see what DK will come up with.

Famous last words

Seriously though, I can understand that you are not into very bass heavy music like rap or whatever and feel you don't need a sub for this reason. However, bass notes are a large part of just about all music. a 6.5" componants will not be able to reproduce these notes acuratly or loud enough, especialy in your price range. Plus, as the music gets louder with your nice new componants and amp, this lack of bass frequency will be even more pronounced. My point is that a sub doesn't just mean earth shaking, window breaking vibrations. Although that's not a bad thing either
