I just installed the MM6501's and really like them. They're very efficient, allowing me to get surprisingly good SQ and volume from my HU's internal amp. I have the crossovers set for -3 db to the tweeters, and they put out plenty of bass and treble. They're really light, and are a direct bolt-in w/ no fabrication req'd. HUGE improvement vs. stock, w/ much greater clarity and range. My only prob. is some low-end rattling on deep bass passages, but I suspect that's more a function of needing to Dynamat my doors. I got mine for just under $180 from Amazon.

Alpine Type Rs are good when amped. Good budget speakers that you can get close to $200.

I have the Alpine Type-R's and find its the right mix of SQ and being painfully loud. Plenty of bass but much more on the highs that I had to ha ve them set lower on the crossover. No experience with running them off non-amp but with an amp, these components just keep asking for more power.

You can make the Alpine Type Rs sound like a 1000.00 component set with the right installed. Location of the tweeters and sound deadening your doors helps a lot.
