I have used the Odyssey race batteries in a handful of my cars.
Its pretty easy to do. I usually just put everything that was making a connection up front into a distribution block and run 0 or 4g back. Just make sure you get some 4g or bigger wire and chose your path for the wire carefully.
The side mount idea is a good option as well.

seems like a lot of work to me. 'why not have an aluminum or plastic-plexi cover made to protect your battery.

just a thought

Smoked plexi cover and change the red insulator to black or remove it.

Best and easiest idea.....

Another option to look at would be to convert the battery to a side post set up. I haven't looked but you could probably find a small batter with side terminals and no top post, solving your hood problem. A small change of the cable ends to ring terminals and you'd be set.
Thanks Paul, you've been the biggest help so far. I never new of such a battery with side terminals. Could you direct me to a site or store that I would have to goto to get more information about this. Oh, and those small light weight batteries, are those typically sealed or venting batteries? Thanks again.

Check any GM battery from about '73 on....they are all side post. Prone to leaking, poor connection...on and on and on. Look at any auto parts store. They will have side post batteries. You will need to change your connectors too. Some have top and side post both now so you may need to look for side post connection only.
