Relocating the battery
I have used the Odyssey race batteries in a handful of my cars.
Its pretty easy to do. I usually just put everything that was making a connection up front into a distribution block and run 0 or 4g back. Just make sure you get some 4g or bigger wire and chose your path for the wire carefully.
The side mount idea is a good option as well.

Another option to look at would be to convert the battery to a side post set up. I haven't looked but you could probably find a small batter with side terminals and no top post, solving your hood problem. A small change of the cable ends to ring terminals and you'd be set.

Thanks Paul, you've been the biggest help so far. I never new of such a battery with side terminals. Could you direct me to a site or store that I would have to goto to get more information about this. Oh, and those small light weight batteries, are those typically sealed or venting batteries?
