Default Remote Start?

Is it possible to install remote start on an S2000? I know it would be bad if I leave the car in gear when it's off, but typically I dont (maybe I should, but I always just use the parking brake). Anyhow, assuming the car is left out of gear, is it possible to install remote start? I would be nice to have the car a little warmed up when I get outside during the winter

Possible, yes. Some installers won't do it.

How it's done depends on which system you go with. More then a few of the board sponsors can probably set you up.

I used to have the Viper 901, the one w/ the pager system. I used to work at Best Buy and the installers did the install for me on the side. The reason they aren't allowed to do it is because we've had a lot of people come in and say they left the car in gear and turned it on, which only lead to negative outcomes.

I don't recommend installing remote start because our keys have a chip in them and require us to leave a key installed in the dash in order for the remote start to work. If someone knows you have remote start at work or anywhere and wants to steal your car, you just made it a lot easier. I think that's why my car was stolen so easily, because the roof wasn't cut and the car wasn't towed. It could've been the installers, or someone else, but they just drove the car away as if they had the key.

Good luck on whatever you choose though.

Yes it can be done. It is illegal to do with any other system except the Compustar. The Compustar basically uses almost like a turbo timer feature. The car stays running as you get out and shuts offs when you close the door.

You dont need to leave the key in the bypass. There is an 555H that is programable.

Compustar Remote Starter's make you leave the car running before you get out. By doing it this way you can be mostly sure that the car is not in gear when remote started... since you can't get out of the car with it running in gear even with the E-brake on, its should be safe to remote start the car the next time.
Compustar makes certain RSer's for manual transmission cars. You must use that type. I can give you the part number if you tell me if you want just the RS or if you want a RS/Alarm combo.

darkknight, can i use the factory alarm with the Compustar remote or do I need the combo RS/alarm if I want to keep an alarm system? Do I still need to leave the key in the car with the Compustar system?

Do you actually have the factory alarm? Most people don't. Just because you have a remote doesn't mean you have the alarm from Honda, it was an Option you had to pay extra for. You can test it if your not sure.

Have the remote handy... like in your hand Roll the windows down, get out lock the doors, wait about 30seconds to a minute for the alarm to arm, reach in through the open window, unlock the door and open the door. If the alarm goes off you have the Honda (dealer)installed alarm. If nothing happens then you just have keyless entry.

Check it out and let me know.

As for needing a key. Like mentioned above you don'e need a key to stay in the car any longer. There a control boxes that will read the key and "learn" the code there-by by-passing that safety feature during remote start.

Hey darkknight, thanks for the above info. I thought I just had keyless entry, but my car starts honking and all that when I lock it and then open the door.

Can you post the part # for the RS in case other people are curious? it seems like there are a lot of remote start threads.
