Actually, he is. For someone to ask this question, means they are not capable of doing this, meaning the answer is no. If someone wants to spend 2 grand for custom work, moving the airbag sensors, etc, then yes. He said exactly what I replied. If you ask this question (can it be done) the answer is no.

John never said it was impossible, just that it was far from easy. It's one of those, "if you're asking the question then you probably couldn't do it" kinds of answers.

But, if you read what he said, he never stated it was impossible, just that it wouldn't be worth the money to have a shop do the work (as there are other ways of doing it).

Oh, and the search button works fine. In fact, most of the time when people are claiming it's "broke", it isn't. It's just one of the links isn't working right. The actual search button up top almost always works and, if you work with the search terms, will usually start you going in the right direction.

I don't know if Johns (original) response to this was warrented, maybe it was, dunno. But this topic has come up once a week for the last couple of weeks (in fact, I thought this was last weeks thread still hanging around) and even just skimming a couple of back pages of topics would have turned this up.

Oh, and the FAQ, I think, has some information on this as well. So this was just a lazy topic to start (as it is well covered) and, while john was being abrassive in his response, as a forum regular, you knew this would happen if you lazy-posted a common question.

And I've seen the responses to the weekely, "what tire/offset/wheel/whatever" questions. They read a lot like johns (on a bad day) and tend towards, "use the search" and "it's in the faq" responses.

Ok since some of you people are just don't understand this for some reason I'll explain it to you again really slow... Focus now.

rijowysock:
"anyway to make double din fit other than cutting big hole in main dash.

could u remove the door piece.. cut out a hole and put it in or are their beams behind that prevent"
The above implies this person does not understand what's behind the stock HU nor does he understand that it requires custom work.

So the answer that should be given is NO, because this person clearly should be cutting up his dash and moving the SRS equipment.

Then rijowysock says:
"im not saying an easy fit, im saying have a shop do it and cut some shit.

so sorry to ask, someone please shoot me for asking.."
OK now the story changes to 'I'm going to bring it to a shop and have them custom fit it in'

The above proves HE won't be doing it himself. So my statement was correct.

Then trivium you said:
"Its soo funny how some people an be total jackasses and they think they know everything.

BTW, it HAS BEEN DONE. Pm Webestore for pics and info."
Did you even read the responses here??? Go back and read them!!

Then Matts2k posts a link to one that has been done PROVING MY POINT!! and yet you still don't get it, by posting this:
No, darkknight1999 has to be right.
Well as it turns out I was right so thank you for proving it so who's the jackass now. I answered the question correctly in my first responses. Good call

This is not a web forum run and support by a bunch of kids. People that respond here for the most part have a great deal of knowledge and kindly share it with others. We have engineers here that have designed and sell products here for people that otherwise would not be able to do certain things. People that have posted up "How-To's" so that someone can try there hand at different things. Those people and they know who they are, come here and help people because they love this car, they love electronics, and like helping people. I know some of those same people will read though this thread and tell me I was a little harsh on you but you know what, I see people like you come here everyweek and spout of wrong information that can get unsuspecting people into trouble that could cost them money. Next time you maybe try and understand the questions. Don't assume you can read the persons mind. :rantover:

Thank for the support Dave & Pulse...

But like Pulse said, this topic has been covered many many times. The search does work. I use it all the time. Anything can be custom molded or fitted for the right kind of cash.

Just been following this thread.

The long and the short of it is that YES, it CAN be done, but is it REASONABLE to get it done, NO. If you are taking it to a shop to have it done, be prepared to be without your car for quite a while. Personally, I would not want to screw with the SRS unit. If you make one wrong move and pop the airbag, that is at LEAST $1100 (from the prices I have seen to repack).

Technically, yes it can be done. But for the $, you would probably be better off getting a touch screen and linking it to a hidden brain / car-puter (like Webestore), or have a slide down mechanism (like the one I have seen that comes out of the air vent). Both will require major modification, and the $ will probably make the dash cutting look that much better.

If you are a fiberglass genious, I would say go for it. But if you are paying someone for the labor, not worth it, IMO.

John (darkknight1999) it was after reading this thread last night that I decided not to do business with you after all. Your know it all attitude and condecending tone really rub some people the wrong way; which is really a shame because you are very skilled and knowlegeable.
