Replace 6.5" Woofers with 2-Ways?
Hi there,
I used the search function and couldn't find this specific question answered. I think I have a blown woofer on the passenger side - only noticable with really bassy songs (could be the plastic film rattling against the door as well).
Anyways, not looking to invest much in the sound system (I have Focal Components in my other car, so yes, I realize the "right way" to do things), but I just want to stop the rattle and improve the sound a bit while the door panel is off again. Just wondering if anyone has experience leaving the stock tweeter as is and adding 2-ways to the lower door.
Thanks in advance.

just my 2 cents, but i don't recommend using a stock tweeter setup with high end components like Focal. If you're putting in a 6.5" mid-range focal driver to replace the stock woofer then i would use better tweeters for your highs.
Additionally if you're taking the door panel off anyway..I would just replace the stock tweeters while you're at it.

kove4life, that doesn't sound like what wms004 is asking.
I have not done this myself, but I understand what you're asking... If it were me, and I didn't want to spend much on a fix, I would probably replace the mid-bass with inexpensive 2-ways (in both doors) and disconnect the factory tweeters. It may be possible to leave the tweeters connected, but this would likely result in the soundstage being too heavily weighted in higher frequencies. I would NOT recommend just replacing one of the doors. Also, have you asked at a Honda dealership what one replacement mid-bass would cost, in lieu of buying a set of 2-ways?

Hmm yes it appears I misred..yeah why not just go with an oem speaker replacement? Or an inexpensive 2-way may be a viable option since the stock system is bleh. I respectfully disagree with only having midrange frequencies in your setup though even if the even if the sound spectrum is weighted in the higher frequencies. I would definitely utilize the tweeters
There are a couple of other possibilities:
1) you can probably find a replacement OEM woofer in the "for sale" forum
2) if you go aftermarket, you should be able to find a pair of relatively
inexpensive mid/woofers that will work at least as well as the stock ones
with the stock tweeters. Just make sure you buy something 4-ohm and
efficient, I'd say sensitivity > 92 db/1w/1m
Some places to try:

I just upgraded the system in the girlfriends car so the speakers are just sitting there

Thanks for the input guys. I spoke with a few audio installation guys and they said 2-ways in the door would drastically reduce the bass as the airspace allows the 6.5" 1-way woofers to provide a little kick.
I looked in to the price of stock replacements and you have to buy the pair which would run ~100+ shipping.
I just ordered this "sold separately" mid from Buy.com - specs here from best buy's site - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Power+Acoustik...9&skuId=9045703
CreAzian, you sent this message 1 day too late
I'll let you guys know how it sounds.

Well said and proven today. I installed one DB651 2 way coax and it had no punch or bass at all. Stick with the OEM, they are a good fit for the OEM radio.

Well, the Power Acoustik 6.5" wasn't even close to fitting (Thanks a lot bestbuy.com for saying it fit). So, I picked up a new single OEM woofer for $53 shipped and all is back to normal.
