Default replacing oem head unit...

Im planning on getting the Pioneer DEH-P6400 unit. I'm just wondering if the hand controls on the left side of the steering wheel will still work with an aftermarket head unit. Does anyone have a similar pioneer unit? How hard was the install and did it fit correctly in the factory mounting bracket? Thanks in advance.

rev,

MOST aftermarket heads will work with the factory controls with the addition of an IR repeater, such as the common SWI-X by Pacific Audio Corporation (commonly referred to as PAC on this board). You can pick these up at just about any local stereo, or for added convenience, order one from Lucid wit an attached wire harness.

However, certain Sony units (and a few Pioneers now) work with a higher carrier frequency for their IR remotes, so the PAC won't work. check with Lucid and he should be able to tell you if that unit will work.

Also, check my website for some useful install info...
