Hi guys, I'm new to s2ki just got my s2 recently =D I was wondering, is there a way to rewire the wires for when you turn on your ambers your sidemarkers will go on as well and also still flashes when signaling? its for an ap2 07
Yeah, I would think so but you'd have to be creative with relays. You could probably rewire them to burn with the running lights and then use a couple of relays with the coil driven by the turn signal circuits for each side to make them flash off. Remember, the relay coils will change the load on the turn signal lighting circuit and may make them flash too fast or too slow. I don't think anyone has done this before but it has been discussed in a theoretical sense.
use an optic coupler for driving your turn signal relay. This will isolate the two circuits. The only way to make it work is to use logic circuitry, to turn side lights on with out blinking ( Running lights = ON, R/L Turn signal = OFF ).
To make the lights blink ( Running Lights = ON or OFF, R/L Turn Signal = ON).
When the operator turns on the "Right" turn signal the left would shut off while the Right blinks. After turning both lights would go back to being lit. I will try to design a basic Logic circuit with AND GATES and Inverters and post it. I'm working tonight so perhaps tomorrow.
This is not quite as complicated as opto-couplers and logic circuits. You can do it with 2 relays, though the wiring will be a little messy. And you'll have to find a place to mount the relays as I'm sure hanging them from the side turn signal wires is not a good idea. You will need one pair of relays for each side turn signal. I could probably build a 1" PC board and do it without relays so it would be small, light weight, and could be wired in-line with the side turn signal wires. All you'd have to do is run one wire to the parking light circuit.
Description of relay circuit:
When the parking lights are off, the turn signal power (grn/yel) will be routed straight through to the lamp and they will blink like normal. Every time the lights flash, the top relay turns on but doesn't do anything because the the bottom relay has the lamp circuit connected straight to the turn signal circuit.
If the parking lights are turned on, the bottom relay activates, switching the lamp wire to the top relay which connects it to parking light power, turning the lamp on. If the turn signals are now activated, the top relay turns on with each flash, disconnecting the lamp from the parking light power, causing it to blink off.
OK, I just completed a circuit that will do this without relays. It will be a small pc board (1")covered in heat shrink with 2 wires on one end and 3 wires on the other. Four of these wires are connected in-line with the side marker and the 5th wire will have to be extended to connect to the parking light circuit, which can be under the hood at the front lights or run into the car and plugged into the fuse box (there's a special terminal there for the parking lights)
The installation can be done without removing the inside fender covers. If you put 1/4" crimp terminals on the 4 in-line module wires you can simply unplug the factory cable from the side marker and insert the module in-between. It's possible to fish the 5th wire through the fender to the under-hood area without too much trouble and you can decide if you prefer to tie it into the parking light circuit at the headlights or run it into the car to connect at the fuse box.
If anybody wants these I will sell a pair of modules for $35 (one for each side marker) but they won't be available for about a week. Obviously this is more money than buying 4 relays but it's a heck of a lot simpler and will be easier to install. Plus less chance of damaging something by trying to wire it yourself.
Damn that was fast. have hooked them up on your car yet? I might be interested in this mod. I gotta wait for now. Need other things from you before I can get these. Just got the dci about to order seat belt lock.
