Rockford Fosgate
I just bought a new Rockford Fosgate 10" dual 2-ohm voice coil subwoofer, the P310D2 for $169 and this guy is telling me that it is not that good. Is there any truth to that? I can always cancel the order.
I have not heard the particular sub you speak of, but I am under the impression that Rockford subs may be passed over not so much because they arn't any good, but rather because you can get a perfectly acceptable audio solution for an s2000 for less.
some of the RF subs are quite decent... my exposure to the latest generation hasn't been very extensive though... and what ones i have heard have been in non-optimal situations (ported pre-fab box @ Best Buy...
).
i think William (WLaurent) has much more experience with them... as i can see from a quick look -- that's a stage 3 punch sub. historically, the higher end RF's are pretty nice subs. again -- my experience with the new ones is very limited...
in my opinion, if you get the enclosure right, i'd be willing to bet you could get a good solid sound out of that sub.

Ive used MANY rockford subs, of all different price ranges for many many years. In my experience (I have NOT used the new slick looking line,) cheap rockfords ($250 and under) were NOT good. THe construction was bad, sound quality was pretty bad, and they dont do anything but pound. Their POWER line was very good particularly the HX2 series, and were great subwoofers. As far as what I know today, there are just too many good subs out there to get Rockford or JL.....you are better off with Eclipse, Alpha, Alpine, ED....

I really liked the sound from the 2002 era HE, HE2 and HX2 Rockford Subs - still run a pair of HE's in my trunk.
I was not impressed with the early Punch P1 and P2 subs (2003 thru 2004), but have heard a P3 10" and it sounded very nice. It was running in a RF built ported enclosure.
You can get those online for somewhere in the $130 range if you shop around.

I have sold and installed RF for almost 15 years now, and they've always had superior higher end equipment. Their price-point subwoofers are good, not great. But I would put their upper-end models up against anything on the market, regardless of price (especially JL, one of THE most over-rated subwoofers on the planet).
The new P3's are impressive all the way around; looks, build quality, sound and reliability.
Think about this, gentlemen. RF has been around a long, long time. They have weathered all the goofy-ass trends of this very fickle market and all the "new kids on the block" with the latest, greatest woofer and amp technology, most of which are no longer with us. Whether or not something sounds better than something else is still mostly objective, but you can't go wrong with Rockford.
And when someone tells you "That's not worth it." or "That's junk!.", qualify the source. Experts are a dime a dozen. (I'm a little more expensive
)
Phil.
