I'm with PJK3, the amp must be turning on when it sees an audio signal. This is quite common for low cost amplifiers. All of the scenarios you mention involve a change from signal to no signal (or vise versa). It is no coincidence that these occasions are when you hear a pop. Popping sounds when an amplifier turns on or off have been around since the beginning. Better quality amplifiers take extra steps to abort the pops, and it seems that isn't the case here.

As such, a relay will do absolutely nothing to alleviate the problem.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but while we're on the subject of the bose unit....

Does anyone know if this thing has a built in crossover anywhere on it, adjustable or fixed? If it doesn't then it'll see the full range of frequencies.... unless of course you have an aftermarket HU that has a crossover. If you are simply using the stock HU with this then does it sound ok playing the full frequency range?

I have the crossover in my Alpine 9813. The unit does not appear to have any adjustable variables itself.

you would have to use a multi-meter that can measure current to tell if the amp is pulling power while the radio is on/off. and yes, this should work fine w/ the car off.

be aware though, most multi-meters don't do much current... check the meter, as we don't want to blow a $100 meter over a $100 sub.

Ok, but I do think it's pulling some power when it's off. Also, mine has never made these popping sounds, etc...

From my other post here:

http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...25&pagenumber=1

I unhooked the power wire from the sub and I recharged my battery. I didn't touch the car for 7 days and the car still had power and tried to crank over.

With the power wire hooked up to the sub, my car would be completely dead after 3 days. The battery was just replaced and was pretty weak to being with, but I still "think" it's pulling some amount of power with the car off. I will know for sure when I do the multi-meter test.
