been a while, forgot you are using the 9887R
cabling is a game of $$, but I do think it makes a difference. But, difference vs price is another question
I believe there are only a handful of studios around the world that record Jazz and Classicals with really exotic equipments, and most of my favorites came from those places. What are they using? I have no idea, lol~
the crossovers that come with the X series are no doubt superior in their capabilities for their price, but they are more like band aids than specific solutions.
yes, he should definitely let NS hook him up
hey, compared to most of those new s2k owners, I'm a grumpy old git as well

I know what you mean about cabling - the law of diminishing returns really does apply here, and it's sort of what I'm getting at with regards to sound quality in the S2000 - you reach a point where changes become so small they aren't worth doing. That's sort of my view on full active, especially when my current setup sounds so good. The Imprint makes much more of a difference than going active would.

But, if josser's going to get the job done for coffee and cake by NS, then he should go for it.

Make sure NS finishes all the work before you give him any though

The S2000 is not so noisy that sound quality is a waste of time. Too bad you're not close to the NY area so I can take you for a ride on the highway with the top down and you can see just how much sound quality can be achieved

I'm turning into a grumpy old git in my own right.
When it comes to cabling, I'm also of the opinion that as long as it's quality, low oxygen cabling (so it won't corrode), there's no reason to spring for the expensive stuff.
In fact, the RCAs I have in my car are RCAs I built I myself (custom length ftw). I'm a big fan of KnuKonceptz wiring - because it's cheap, and the flexibility of the sheath they use is just simply amazing. You can almost tie a knot with their 1/0! But that's a functional purpose in a car audio build.
Claus: Sorry I missed you at HC. I should've sent you a text instead of a message on here. I'm sure we'll meet some day,

love: My Eclipse HU has the ability to save up to 6 different EQ settings. As it is, I have a setting for Top Up and a setting for Top Down. The difference? I have my tweets attenuated -6dB for top up(because there's no resonance off the window - this is where most of the excessively brightness comes from) - that's the only difference between top up and top down.
As Claus stated: you're correct that an improperly tuned Active system will not sound as good as a properly tuned Passive one. However, the same is true of any improperly tuned system compared to a properly tuned one. We all know (at least those of us in this thread) that SQ is not just a measure of speakers and wires, but a measure of tuning. Some speakers just make tuning easier (more flat response means the speakers are easier to tune to their surroundings).
hey, I use Knukonceptz wires as well, but I have the silver plated ones for my tweets
just using nordost(had a pair laying around) from the processor to the balanced signal converter and running the Audison proprietary balanced line between the converter and the amp

Big thanks to Neutered Sputniks, cleary he has an amazing depth of knowledge in acoustic and electrical engineering. Not only did he transform my system but he also taught me a great deal about how speakers work and sound is produced.
I also listened to his car and it sounds insane!
My system sounds amazing now! I've had 10+ people try to tune my car and this is by far the best sounding I've ever gottten it.
We cleaned up the wiring, removed the crossovers, figured out which speaker wires ran to each speaker, tuned the gains on the amp, tuned the crossovers on the h.u., and ran auto eq & ta calibration.
Thanks NS!!!!

I like this thread and I want to try it since I recently had to replace my 2 channel amp. I got a 4 channel now and have kappa components. Will I notice a difference if I dont use the crossovers and hook each speaker to a channel?
