S2000 audio/video systems

I figured to make it easy to view different installs in one thread I would start this, and stick it so it becomes a easy point of reference.

List your system components and then add pictures.

Thanks,

tritium_pie 06-28-2003 09:48 PM

yo. Alpine headunits in da house.

is it me, or are Alpines the most popular headunits for S2000s. is there any particular reason-- like compatability w/ DJ Qube's audio controls or is it just because Alpine is the best?

for me, looks-wise the Alpine's are kinda ho-hum, but since it's behind the radio door, looks don't really matter. I'd take quality over looks anyday (except when it comes to girlies-- then it'z a coin toss :D )

as far as looks, the Blaupunkt San Francisco or Munchen are more to my taste, altho the quality isn't as good as other headunits. I do like that they have the keycard technology, which lets you secure the headunit simply by removing a "key card" (like a credit card) from the unit, rather than having to take off the entire face. you can keep the key card in your wallet. but I have the Munchen in my beater CRX, and they start having issues a bit too quickly for my tastes/budget. they also get really really HOT. :yikes:

nice installs, btw. I especially like Sleepy's slick iPod integration.

Hi

I have been enjoying the great installations here - great job(s)!

I would like to ask PAS2KNut in particular about the photo of his CD changer in the
space behind/above the glove box. Is this a common location? How does it fit and did you have to cut the bottom out of the box?

Details please! :-)

Thanks...

Thought I would contribute to the gallery and show my system to you all...

System consists of

Alpine CDA - 9807 (great HU....not one complaint)

2 Audiobahn 2601Q Amps (one for highs, one for subs....
I know what you all think....but I think these are some of the best amps on the market....call me crazy...they sound great....(trust me....i have been in cars with better equipment and they didnt sound as good as mine did), NEVER OVERHEAT,,,,(ive been blasting them for like 2 hours straight in 90+ weather and they ran like champs...), and finally PRICE!!!!

Pair of INFINITI Kappa perfect 6.1
Argue all you want, BAR NONE....best automotive speakers produced for the price and definetely in the top 10 period.

Alpine CHA-S634 mp3 changer mounted in secret compartment, ala Jim style
1 Type R 10" sub for the thump....not a huge fan of block rattling bass, so this is perfect...NO rattles (were 2 but I took care of em....

XM Ai-Net "brain"
KNUKONCEPTZ wiring....just as good as PG but 1/4 of the price.

can you give more details on how you mounted the tweeter like that in the door?!? that's got a very nice look. how does it sound? i was considering mounting mine there (but not like that :what: ), but i found my leg blocked that area of the door.

and can you show more details on the sub enclosure? i had wanted to try and get a 10" in the trunk like that, but couldn't figure the best way to work around the trunk hinge/arm. did you make the enclosure? or have it made?

Awesome setup Glen! I love the way everything is matched. I would love to do this but I have a Blaupunkt HU and don't like their speakers. I am leaning towards CDT speakers for the doors and rear but am waiting to see the '04 headrest speaker setup before I do anything. I am a symmetry freak and also love having everything matching and your setup would be righ up my alley. Good job:thumbup:

I'm using a bolt with the same thread pitch as the one that holds down the spare tire. It is just infront of input jacks for the sub.

I've been wanting to do it for a while--one of the few shortcomings I can find with my current system is that it sounds like the sounds are coming from a too-low source...

I would recommend adding the tweeters in the pillars. I first tested it out by hooking up a pair of Pioneer tweeters and kinda taped them in place. I was very impressed so I purchased the Focal TN45 tweeters (same that come with the component system).

The tweeters are wired in parallel with the front speakers (2 ohm load) and channels 3&4 are bridged to the sub.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...814aa7efa3.jpg

I will post pictures of the speakers, and most importantly, the crossovers (those huge monsters), sometime over the next week or so; I have to pull the doors apart, and have not had time (or weather) to do it.

PJK3 09-05-2003 07:15 AM

bravo!

very nice and clean looking... i love the veritcal amp mounting and i'm quite envious that i wasn't able to do it myself! routing between the panels was a great choice imho.

here's one little wiring tip -- this is a minor one.
your red boot on the battery? take a small knife or some scissors - and cut a tiny slot in one corner to allow the amp power wire to fit. this gives you the flush look and allows the boot to do it's job. ;)

 funny thing is, i look at my own pic above, and i have the slit cut, but hadn't fit it around the wire at that time... doh! :egads: so much for saying... "check out my pic above..."

PJK3,

Actually, I had been iching to get into the door to see what the installer had done. Your request just pushed me over the edge to get it done. ;) :p

BTW, I did snip the cover to the positive lead of the battery this evening, AFTER I had to use my S2000 to jump start the Avalon. Somehow, the Avalon had a dead battery tonight, even though I had disconnected the battery when I originally started to work on it a week and a half ago. That was a heck of a sight.... The little S2000 powering the much larger Avalon.

i once jumped off a Honda Passport.... that was quite funny as well...

ruexp67 09-09-2003 06:54 AM

Wow, that is impressive (well, in a geeky way.)

I could only rank: 36.48915% - Major Geek

InsaneInNC 09-09-2003 07:37 AM

Apparently, I'm not as geeky as I thought..... :(

Here is my thread with the mirror info!

ruexp67 09-12-2003 10:39 AM

That looks like a genuine GM part. (Off of a 'vette I think.)

mikes2k 09-12-2003 10:41 AM

It is OEM, it is made by a company for GM, etc

They have a ton of different ones to chosse from.

ruexp67 09-12-2003 11:04 AM

You might know this mike: I followed your link, and they list adapter brackets for various cars including the 2000-2002 Accord. Is it a different bracket on the Accord than on the S2000?

mikes2k 09-12-2003 11:22 AM

I am not positive. The bracket is included and they ask what kind of car you have when you order.

tkeedy 09-12-2003 11:22 AM

Grassy ass! I might have to add that to my list of things to try to accomplish.

(Yes, I think she DEFINATELY might notice ;) ) However.....being the fellow that I am, I find myself wondering if all the functions of these mirrors are self contained....I.E. basically hook power to them and they do the rest themselves?! Wondering if a mirror "just like" the one in said wife's car or any car having the temp/compass might be found in a salvage yard?!

Travis

mikes2k 09-12-2003 11:26 AM

:nono: self contained except you have to run a sensor for the thermometer.

I e-mailed the distributer and they specifically stated that they do NOT have a bracket for the S2000. So you have to remove the factory "button" and replace it with theirs. :(

darkknight1999 11-12-2003 07:46 PM

I've sence updated my system so I posted again later on in this thread. ;)

darkknight1999 11-12-2003 07:50 PM

Dang those picture a crapy..... sorry about that... its all about lighting and not moving while taking the picture :p

StknCaS2k 11-13-2003 04:13 AM

Nice set-up darknight! How did you attach the amp rack to the trunk lid? That is a very clean install!

darkknight1999 11-13-2003 04:34 AM

Thanks!
The rack is held on with 4 screws under the amps themselves to keep the set up clean. ;)

Amp mounting --- SAAA-WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

FF2Skip 11-13-2003 08:18 AM

I have the basic stuff:

Alpine 7995
BA Pro 6.5's
2 JL 10W3's
Custom fiberglass enclosure painted Sebring
JL 300/2
JL 500/1
Sony PS2
Alpine 6.5" monitor
5 farad cap(same as mikes2k's)

It's still not completed, but seeing this thread makes me want to get it finished and post pics. Here is one, but have since decided to change the mounting of the pieces to more effectively use trunk space. The void between the amps is where the subs go.

Here is one of the enclosure getting ready to be shot.

Kln , I like the way your set up. Can you tell how your idmax hit. because i was thinking about gettting one 10 idmax but it requires 1 to 1.5 cubic feet but our box is only .68 if i m not wrong.

I am really looking to get one just like you. How the bass hit, tight or what?
