I've read a few articles testing the "big 3" radar detectors and the 8500 X50 pretty much wins every contest except rear laser detection. There were multiple comments about the V1 being "dated" and old technology. I like the idea of having arrows, but I actually just ordered an X50 the other day. I should get it tomorrow.

i'm an 8500 owner, and i love it. bang for buck, it's your best value.

V1 is also supposed to be excellent.

reflex action: use the search. search for "8500" and "V1" or "8500" and "Valentine" then read and read and read.

after that, search V1 hardwire or 8500 hardwire.

this has been hashed over 10,000 times... and i'd buy my 8500 X50 again in a heart's beat.

With arrows you have more info that helps you make a choice. Just ordered the Zr3 Escort shifter and might just have to buy the x50 to have the intregated info show up in just one place though. I'm on 2nd V1. Gave 1st V1 to girlfriend and they upgraded it to State of art unit for cheap. You won't get upgrades from others, mabey a $25 or $50 credit towards a purchase of a new one.

Passport also offers upgrades. If you buy directly from them, you can pay an additional service charge of about $30 and it gives you three years of protection (extended warranty) and covers the cost of any upgrades in that time - FOR FREE.
