Default Shop manuals

Hello,

I'm thinking about doing some playing with the factory alarm on my soon-to-arrive '06. I was wondering if the '06 service manual includes wiring diagrams for the factory alarm system.

On a related note, I realize that there appears to be no electrical troubleshooting manual for the '06 yet; is there information about the factory alarm system in the '05 and earlier electrical troubleshooting manual?

No, I want the wiring diagrams. The installation instructions are not the same thing.

Since you never elaborated upon what exactly you meant by ........................
some playing with the factory alarm
It's kinda hard to tell you what you want to know, ain't it? You ask an incomplete question, you get an incomplete answer.

If you want true wiring diagrams, you'll have to order the Helm electrical service manual and even then, there's no guaranty that it will tell you what you want to know.

Since the phrase "wiring digrams" is apparently not sufficiently clear, what I'm looking for is information on what every wire connected to the factory alarm system does. My intent is to determine how to add additional functionality to the factory alarm system (such as being able to use a proximity sensor's "warning" output in some meaningful manner).

Given a -- as you put it -- "true" wiring diagram, I would be able to discern this information.

So, I repeat, does the shop manual contain wiring diagrams that include wiring information for the factory alarm? If the shop manual itself does not contain this information, does the electrical troubleshooting manual?

Well Ed... your not going to get much help insulting a member that has given so much of his time and energy to this forum.

Maybe you should just do your own research... There are people here that could tell you the answers you seek, like me for intance. I have those wire colors but honestly I really don't appreciate the way your treated Dave, so I'll keep the info to myself. Maybe someone else will give them to you... oooorr better yet you'll do your own research.

Nice way to introduce yourself to the forum.

Apologies to everyone that took offense, but I truly and honestly thought the phrase "wiring diagram" made sufficiently clear what it was I was looking for. And that's all I was looking for -- not for someone else to do my research for me -- only to let me know if the $75 I was ready to fork over to Helms was going to contain the information I needed, or if I was going to have to ring out the circuits myself.

I have lurked here long enough to know that xviper is a good resource, and to be honest, I was surprised by his flip comment about my "incomplete" question resulting in an incomplete answer. Note the smilely I put on my initial response: I know sometimes misunderstandings arise, and was willing to chalk the initial response up to nothing more than that.

In any case, peace, people.

Ed

It's OK. Sometimes it's just too easy to misunderstand things over the net. Having dealt with so many questions in Under the Hood and seeing how often questions are asked that don't lead to the desired answers, I just wanted details for a more targetted response. I guess it came across like I was trying to read something between the lines as I've seen so much in the past.

Eg. Some guy asks what's involved in a "tune up" and post by post, we find out he's got a used car, with a CEL and a bunch of misfires. So you see my motivation for asking for more. A "tune up" would not have helped him.

I had hope that installation guide would lead you to what you needed. To tell you the truth, I have not seen any detailed diagrams in the regular service manual that would suggest any information about the optional alarm system. And because it is "optional", only those with the Helm electrical manual can tell you if it contains what you need.

For anyone that comes across this topic in the future: Yes, wiring diagrams showing how the factory alarm connects to the car are available. As xviper noted above, the regular shop (service) manual does not contain this information, but (thanks to another person frequenting this forum) it appears that the electrical troubleshooting manual does.
