Should I get amped?
Ok...I recently got an Alpine 9833 to match to my Polk EX series 6" components in the doors and Sony 5 1/4"s behind the seats...the Polks are fully rewired with 14gauge wiring, and the headunit is powered/grounded with 8gauge...so everything is getting max power.
I have been thinking about buying the Sony Xplod 2-Channel 600w amp...which is supposed to be rated at 100w x 2 RMS @ 4 ohms
This Amp
I'm thinking about running the shatty rear speakers off the head unit and using the amp to power the polks because 100w RMS is much more that 26.
My question is, will this amp help much, or is it not very high quality...I'm really looking to improve the low and mid frequencies by giving the drivers the power they need, but I worry that the amp may cause distortion, or loose a lot of the clarity that I got when I got the Alpine.
And basically I'm looking at this amp right now because my dad is owing me a birthday present, over a month late, but doesn't have a whole lot of money to spend, and he asked me what I wanted...this poped in my head cause it should also fit under the passenger seat
opinions?

Ok...thanks, is there any particular amp that you'd suggest that would fit my needs...I'd really like to fit it under the passenger seat and something that will provide enough power to the speakers and still be clear
...just so I know for future when I do go and buy one

Soundstream XTA 360 will power you 90 watts x 2.

Don't try to put an amp under the passenger seat. A) The sound quality will suffer because of the dimensions of the amp B) The heat dissipation is bad (especially with the heater on!) and you won't be happy in the long run. You can mount an amp above your spare tire or in another hideaway spot though.

how bout behind the passenger seat? I just don't want to put it in the trunk or near the spare...I'd rather wait to save that kind of stuff for a sub or something in the future...
but then I'm big on racing too...and like to save weight whereever possible...so maybe I won't be getting a sub...I'd prefer to try amping first and see how that does it for me.

You can't put a sub above the spare tire, and if you're a racer you'll want to remove both the spare (it's worthless anyway) and your amp so that spot still seems okay to me. You can fit an amp behind the seats, depending on the amp and the size of your occupants. That is a better spot than under the seat IMO. Under the seat usually requires a non-class A amp which is not ideal.
ok...makes sense...I do have the spare tire and tools out all the time...I just don't feel like putting an amp there cause occasionally like when I drive home from college and stuff...I need a place to put it, and I don't want to have to take an amp out and stuff to put a spare tire there...behind the seat would just work out better for me
