Just to clearify a few things hear. The Optima battery that had a very high failure rate is no longer made. The company discontinued that battery.

I never had that battery. In fact they didn't even offer that battery when I bought mine. I have the regular size the 75 I think... I'd have to check...

All that said I'll be replacing my battery this year before something happens(I'd had it for 5 years now). I'll be replacing it with a Kinetic battery.

Which one had the failure rate? I had a yellow top deep cycle that looked exactly like yours that failed in less than 3 years.

The smaller 51 series. What car did you have the YT in?

Yup, I agree with John. Only the 51 series had major issues (although mine is running great.

All other optima products that Ive owned have been spectacular, especially the red tops.

Good choice, my old Optima yellow top crapped out on me in a shorter time than the OEM battery. Won't ever buy another.
Going on over 2 years on my Yellow Top 51 (knock on wood). Went through sub freezing temps last year too (-20 to -30 degree F).

BTW, that animated GIF in your sig with the guy driving that Barbie car down the hill is hilarious.

I have that gold duralast in my LS400 and its worked great this winter, even on the coldest start ups after not driving it for a few days its given the juice needed to start the car right up.

I also put the same battery into the S2000 when I had it, but eh that was a waste.... as I sold the car a month or two later.
