Default Small red light at base of emergency brake handle

It's been a while since I posted.
What is the small red light behind the emergency brake handle.
What is it for? It does not appear in my reference books.

There is a hole there in my car but nothing in it so I always assumed it was an aftermarket alarm thing someone had previously installed. There is also a button under my dash not connected to anything that I assume was for the same thing

Modifry used to offer a free small LED and resistor along with instruction how to hook it up under the dash. Why? It made a light on the dash flash like an alarm. Virtually no current draining at all. I never got around to using it.
