Default so i installed my stereo yesterday,

yesterday i put in a pioneer deh-p4000ub HU, polk 651's running off an older pioneer amp, and a powered blaupunkt sub behind the drivers seat.

all in all it took me 11 hours.

so i get done, turn it on, and it sounds great! freakin clean and pure, with good thump on the low end. i go inside and clean up my mess of boxes, then i get in the car to go home.

as soon as i started the car with the HU on, i get a freakin high pitched wine. when im idling, the pitch is kinda fluctuating, but as soon as im on the gas, its solid and increases volume with more throttle, and its pitch increases with the rpm's.

i didnt have time to trouble shoot it yesterday, but i think i might be able to get to it today, i just need some suggestions.

thanks alot guys!

Sounds like a ground loop. You'll need to check the ground on your amplifier and HU. Use an ohmmeter between the amplifier and HU ground points, and between those ground points and the negative terminal on your battery. Anything >4ohms can cause this.

Where did you ground the amplifier and HU?

i grounded both amps (sub and speakers) to the same bolt on that brace right under the spare tire.

the HU is grounded to the screw on the left side of the HU, between the two mounting screws.

i believe it is the culprit, becuase i short cutted there and put the ground between screw and the plastic the screw goes through, instead of to bare metal.

im gonna go fix it in a little bit and see what it difference it makes.

thanks for the help!

Your amp grounds should go to a bolt specifically for that - use a sheet metal screw instead of a through-bolt. The electrical connection is through the screw threads, instead of the bolt head (which is hard to get to bare metal - dremel to get through the paint and rust-proofers). The same goes for the HU ground point. It needs to be attached to a screw that screws into the sheet metal. Remember: welds are physically strong, but not necessarily electrically sound.

Good luck

Its a bad ground. Sand the paint down to metal under the bolt, then when you tighten the bolt down the ground connector will make good contact with the metal of the car. Might take 5 minutes for each ground location.

so i fixed the ground on the HU, but the whine was still there. i unplugged the RCA's from the sub, and with just the front speakers playing, the whine went away. when i plugged it back in, the whine came back. so i un-plugged it again and reconnected it, and as far as i can tell, the whine is gone. i have yet to go drive it to really tell, i got interuppted by a guy wanting to buy my GF's car, which sold by the way, lol.

thanks

LOL well at least that worked out

You should check all the connections for that sub amp.

Are you using stock (OEM) spark plug wires?

^^im no expert on the S's ingnition system, but i thought that our coil pack design didnt use spark plug wires. i may be wrong though.

darknight: yeah, the sell of the car went really well. it went in the paper this morning and the guy who bought it called at 8:02. i will be checking those connections for that sub, for sure.

thanks for the advice!

Just to clear this up,

The S2000 does use spark plugs. The coilpacks you mentioned replace the distributor cap and regular spark plug wires. The S2000 does not have typical spark plug wires.
